Homeland Security blocks Frequencies

2006-05-25 Posted at 10:04:47 PM

The US Department of Homeland Security and the FCC(Federal Communications Commission) made the decision in late April to block access and use of  several high-level frequencies that the WiFi service platform had been designed around.  This decision affects Television, US Military Communications as well as the WiFi and WiMax industries.

This decision seriously affects ItsYouNet and the WiFi Corporation.    This is the company that has developed the Wireless technology to revolutionize the Internet.  Their system has the ability to broadcast the Internet connection signal via repeater towers from one central NOC(Networks Operation Center), broadcast to distances of 40 miles with out degradation of the signal, transmit through buildings, forests and up to 20 feet underground, maintain a T-1 connection both  UP and DOWN without degradation from the amount of simultaneous users  connecting and having a secure the signal with 128-bit SSL encryption

The ruling does not stop the project but is does delay the implementation.     Mr Gary Brown (the WiFi Corporation CEO) has continued deployment of the back-up coding and programming prepared for use with other signal frequencies.   On May 16th testing began again of the WiFi signal strength in the State of Arizona using the back-up code.   The project is still go.

However, using the new signal frequencies the distance the WiFi signal can reach is less than the 40 miles achieved last year. A solid signal was achieved and maintained up to a distance of 26 miles in the new tests.    Not as impressive as what was achieved with the original frequencies, but good enough to keep the $13-Billion dollar investor happy and save the project for us all.

The next step is  mountainous terrain testing. If a solid signal is obtained in the range of 16 to 20 miles, the project the WiFi is a go.   Mr. Brown is confident that the 16 to 20 mile target will easily be able to be reached, and further explained that we would have in fact already been live with the service if the FCC and US Government had not thrown a cog in the wheel with the blocking of the frequencies. This means we should see the WiFi service go live near immediately after the mountainous terrain tests are complete.

Uncle Sam's Niche Business

2006-05-12 Posted at 09:30:59 PM

Uncle Sam has a Niche Business

You wont find it in any of the many niche directories
on the Internet, but Uncle Sam has a booming niche business.  The niche that your Federal Government has carved out is making pennies. A niche market is a smaller portion of a larger market.
In dollar value pennies are a very small part of the monetary system so it could be called a niche in the mint system.

The goal of Internet entrepreneur is to establish a
niche business that can be very profitable.   Since it is a niche (small part of a larger market) it is too small to attract competition from larger enterprises.   The Federal Government doesn't have competition and as we all know too well the goal is not to make money but to SPEND money.

While the spending minting pennies is infinitesimal relative to most Federal spending it is growing rapidly.   The cost of the metals to make the penny has more than doubled in the last year to more than 0.8 cents.  The so called copper penny is made mostly of zinc with a very thin coat of copper.   The government spends at least another 0.6 cent to make each penny for a total cost of 1.4 cents for each penny.   Last year the mint made 7.7 billion pennies.  That means the mint  spent $308,000,000 more than the value of the pennies.   Production is up in 2006.  The U.S. Mint is producing through April 2006 at an annual rate of 9.5 billion a year.  Why the increase?  It may be because speculators are hoarding them for the time it may be profitable to melt them down for the value of the metal.  The Benjamin Franklin quotation "A penny saved is a penny earned" will have to an addition "if you melt it down."

With the value of the penny almost nil why do we still have pennies?
The value of the penny is about 1/10 of what it was in 1950.  It makes as much sense for us to have pennies as it would to mint 1/10 cent pieces in 1950.   You can't buy anything with a penny.  There is no more penny candy, coin collectors don't accept pennies.  The five and dime store is now the dollar store.  The Tooth Fairy doesn't even deal in coins today certainly not pennies.  The going rate is $1.00

One objection to eliminating the penny is retailers would round up those great bargains of $9.98 to $10.00.  Most retailers would gladly lower them to $9.95 if they didn't have to deal with the added expense and time in dealing with pennies.  The biggest defenders of the penny are the sales tax advocates and the an according to William Safire, the New York Times columist zinc lobby.  Don't expect to see pennys disappear soon.  Maybe in 50 years when the value is 1/100 of cent.
