This tutorial describes how to use CoreFTP.
CoreFTP can be downloaded for free at: http://www.coreftp.com For the sake of this tutorial, I will assume you already have your own domain "janedoe.com" and your ftp name is: "ftp@janedoe.com". Once you have your copy of CoreFTP installed and open it up, you will see the following screen: which is the SITE MANAGER
This is the screen you will enter your hosting information provided by your ISP.
NOTE: If you are behind a firewall, you may need to enable Passive Mode. You can do this by selecting the checkbox "PASV Transfers".
Once this information has been entered, click the "connect" button and you should see the following connection dialog:

Once your connection is made, the connection dialog will disappear and you should be returned to the main CoreFTP screen.
The list of files/folders on the right is the view of your web hosting account. The list of files/folders on the left is the view of your files on your own computer local files You will notice a directory named "html" in your right (hosting) side. This is the directory where all your website files should be placed in order for them to be seen once you type in your domain address (http://www.janedoe.com) into a browser window. Another important and often overlooked fact is that you must have a file named Index.html or Index.htm. You will also notice files named 404.HTML, 403.HTML, etc. These files can be used to setup custom 404 (page not found) error pages. Just edit these pages and customize them as you wish. TRANSFERRING FILESOnce you are connected, you can now start transferring your files to your FTP server. Open your public.html file by double-clicking on it. To upload your file, just hi-lite the Index.html or Index.htm file in your local directory (left side), then click on the upload button When your upload is complete, you will see on the right (remote) side a list of the files your have transferred. To download the your files from the server, find the files you want to download, and hi-lite them, the click on the download button (blue arrow pointing to left)
