That goes beyond calcium Did you know that some of the bones in your body are competely regenerated every 3 months? While it may seem like something out of science fiction, it's not. Our bodies constantly break down and build bone. It's a natural and necessary process. How else would our bodies be able to heal a broken bone? The key is to keep this process in balance, meaning you constantly build new bone at the rate you break down existing bone. This is the way you maintain optimal bone density and strength. But as we age, this balancing act becomes less efficient. Bone mass density, or simply put, the weight of the skeleton may start to drop. In addition, calcium absorption declines, and our level of Vitamin D and certain hormones start to fall. All of these directly affect the health of our bones--and this goes for men as well as women. Our modern diet is filled with an abundance of acid-producing products that literally rob bones of calcium in order to balance the body's pH. Over the years, most people have taken in far too many highfat meats, refined sugars, fast foods, sodas, and over-the-counter medications, which are all acidic, and therefore throw off the environment needed for strong, dense bones. You'll be amazed at how your bones respond to the right nourishment. You really can do alot to help them as bones are living organs that remodel themselves constantly. Nurture them, feed them properly, and they will respond. There are obvious things you can do to help such as making dietary changes to decrease acidic foods and include more calcium rich foods like dairy products, broccoli, and soy. Plus, begin doing weight bearing exercises which do wonders for the strength of your bones. These changes will go a long way in helping your bones, but getting the right balance of nutritional supplements is one of the MOST important things you can do to maintain strong, resilient bones.
