Don't Let Anyone Steal Your Dreams

Don't Let Anyone Steal Your Dreams

Sometimes we all are faced with adversity or bumps in the road that seem like huge mountains at the time.

One thing I have found as a single parent of two, is that you must treat these issues as  lessons learned and keep moving forward with your own goals. Never lose sight of what  those goals are no matter what negatives may surround you.

Money, family and basic life issues all may feel overwhelming at times but you need to treat each day as the brand new day it really is.

As a single parent you get offered so much advice, often which can make you feel like just  because you aren't married that people feel your brain went away with your marriage.

In life we are given choices and as we all know sometimes we make some mistakes in the  choices along the way.  Making mistakes in choices that seemed right to you at the time, is  no reason at all to regret those choices.  It's all part of your life, your right to live your life.

People really need to respect those choices and most importantly so do you!

Never allow someone to make you feel less of a person, especially not because some of  the choices you've made have not worked out.  Life happens, mistakes happen, don't ever allow yourself to dwell in the things you cannot change.

Someone very important to me, my brother, Brian R. Osgood Jr., passed along some information to me he learned and found valuable, which I would like to share with you.

Make yourself up three baskets:
    1. Things you can do something about.
    2. Things you can partially correct with some help.
    3.  Things you cannot do anything about.

As each issue in life comes up, use the baskets to sort those issues.

First take # 3, the things you cannot do anything about and completely trash them. There is  no need to worry over anything you cannot change nor should you waste your time on those items. Discard them, cut your loss if need be and move on.

Second take #2, the items you can partially correct with some help. Make yourself a list, share that list, tackle what you can and don't be too proud to ask for help with the rest. Most  people are willing to reach out and help when they can see you are willing to do what you  can do to help yourself. So let them help. Have faith in yourself and your own abilities. Never  allow yourself to lose your faith and hope. If it was meant to be it will happen.

Third take #1, the items you can do something about, concentrate on these. Set your sights  high, make your lists, keep yourself accountable with each new day and each new start. Cross off the items on your list that you have accomplished.

Take the time to reward yourself. Take the time to really acknowledge your own  accomplishments. Take the time to acknowledge and love your children. Reward them for  their accomplishments no matter how big or small.

My grandmother, Katherine Battles Watson, taught me many valuable lessons in her  lifetime. Here are are few examples of what I learned from her.

Laughter and hugs are the best medicine and reward.

Believe in yourself, make your dreams a reality.

Stand by your own goals, your own life choices and your dreams and most importantly never  allow anyone to steal your dreams.

Very inspiring story, Vicki, of faith, life choices and setting goals for ourselves.

Yes, there are many choices and changes in life and we're bound to make mistakes along the way...some of them doozies! But that is how we learn and our dreams become a reality.

Wayne Dyer has a saying: "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I believe it's true and the lessons continue our entire life. What a great foundation you had with your grandmother!

Wise family and nice dreams. :)
