Kids how they change your life

In the Beginning

I tried to remember the very day my wife said ' I'm pregnant' with our first babe. As you may well have expected, as a man I cannot. But I can remember her saying 'I want to try for a baby'. I wonder why?.

The nine months to me are a complete blur. As I remember, I had just completed my training as a hairdresser and was about to open my first salon , I can bring to mind the fact that I had to do a lot of decorating - a thing that to this day I could well live without! She's still on about decorating the kitchen, anyway, thats another story.

The evening of the 17 May we got very little sleep, kept waking up. 'I'm in labour'  Brenda said (Brenda is my wife's name - better give her a mention ). You know the feeling when you're not quite sure whether to take her to the hospital or wait a bit longer. Anyway the decision was made, we put the bag (overnight case I mean!) in the car and off we both set.

Arrived about 20mins later, went straight to the ward admissions etc.
Well that was 2.00am . I was determined to stay for the birth and give a hand, after all I had done so much work to get Brenda to this stage, I wasn't going to miss the final stages of what turned out to be a little miracle.

I was getting a bit tired by then, been up all day, then not knowing how much longer I would have to stay up. There you are, not giving any thought to Brenda and the pain she was in! Come on, she had pethadin, all I got was a cup of tea - and later on my hand crushed and shouted at.

Oh well, the things us men have to put up with . Come 12noon 18 May (or just after I think) this wonderful little bundle was born. WOW! what a beautiful baby! I could not believe how small and perfectly formed. It took me a few seconds to find out if it was a boy or girl amongst the umbilical cord etc. I must say, to this day there were no thoughts as to what sex we would be given. It's a girl Georgina (Gina) .

Was I tired from the birth. Thought I better wait a few years before the next one - get my strength back up!

If I remember correctly Brenda and Baby Gina were back home in about four days.
