Introduction
Hello
This is my first blog entry and I feel it is appropriate for me to introduce myself to the community. My name is Abdul Halim and my father's name is Hasan (just one five-letter word). Here in Malaysia this is written as Abdul Halim bin Hasan. The 'bin' (got nothing to do with the garbage bin) means 'son of' and for females the word 'binti' is used. This system is used because we do not have surnames. The Chinese community in Malaysia uses the Chinese system where the first word (eg Tan, Wong, Lee, Ng, etc) as the family or clan. The Indians in Malaysia have their own system. These people are all Malaysians of either Chinese or Indian origin. There are other communities in Malaysia and they have their own system.
I have now retired from the Malaysian education service after 31 years. Started work as a teacher after graduation in 1968 and retired in 1999 as head of curriculum in the local (state) department of education. My career has taken me to various places overseas (mainly United Kingdom and Australia).
My post retirement activity is mainly in the unit trust business where I meet people and try to impress upon them the value of investing in unit trusts. This activity (habit?) is very much at a low level statistically when compared to people in the advanced countries (western world)
Another activity which is taking much of my time is surfing the 'net' and getting to know people, networking, and hopefully making some money at the side. But getting to know and making friends is top priority.
I have a family and my wife has another year to serve as a teacher. I have a daughter and a son.
Well, bye for now God Bless Abdul Halim
