2005-08-23 Gardening with a Green Thumb!
Like a lot of gardens in this neck of the woods, ours is yielding some fantastic produce. As soon as I can figure out how to get the best quality photos from our new camera, I promise some shots that will make your mouth water. Lots of hard work and TLC paid off this year. Sharon's already canned tomatoes, lots of salsa, carrots, beans and other vegies. I'll try to get the photos in this week.
2005-06-06 Giving the Kitchen a Facelift!
My wife Sharon truly possesses a natural flare for interior decorating that sometimes just makes me want to laugh. You know, the kind of laughter when someone is truly good at something and it only takes them 1/2 the time it would take anyone else. She has already finished the living, dining and family rooms as well as the hallway. As I got up this morning to work on my home business, she reached for the ladder and some floor coverings to get started on the kitchen. Of course this is not her first endeavor. She had done her own homes before we got hitched and did a superb job on our home in Reno. Among the sponge, rag, faux and stencil painting (wallpapering is out of the question), she carefully mixes and matches her colors and texture to set the right tone for each room. Add a few ceiling fans, drapes, stenciled bordering with the right amount of antique furniture in with the new and the job is complete. I'll get some pictures up of the rooms she’s already finished in the next couple of days. Her plans for the new look in the kitchen include tiling the area between the splashboard and the bottom edge of the cabinets and also around the kitchen window. Just since this morning, she has already finished the ceiling and is taping off the wall she will be working on tomorrow. She envisions various shades of green topped with a copper glaze. The glaze provides for a truly rich and unique color. She will also be stenciling an ivy border (in paint) around the top. At the rate she’s going we will have pictures of this up in the next couple of days as well.
2005-06-02 Planning our Parents 50th Wedding Anniversary
My wife's parents will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 24th, 2005. Lot's to do. Sharon's siblings have been charged with pulling together a great celebration. I would tell you more, but don't want to spill the beans. Pics and surprises to come on the 25th.
2005-05-31 Returning to Indiana
My wife, Sharon, and I returned to Indiana to be closer to my aging parents. I took an early retirement after 27 years of Federal Service, Sharon closed our Women's Clothing store (McDowell's) and we packed up our doggie (Cynders) and headed for Richmond, Indiana. Why Richmond? Her parents are there as well. You see Sharon and I grew up in separate parts of Indiana, both left when we were young, were gone for about 25 years, met in Reno through our sisters, fell in love and got married. Boy that was a mouthful. At any rate, we own our home and are putting in a garden this spring. Sharon is so proud of her plants growth as the rain has been generous over the past few weeks. Much more to come on home upgrades, working from home at my computer business, substitute teaching at a local high school... don't know where to stop.
