Predictions

2006-01-31 Posted at 04:45:06 PM

This week I was researching information for my Toastmasters meeting - theme Groundhog Day - as I was the Toastmaster for my Monday night club and doing the Word of the week for the Tuesday night club.  I decided to look up the word Predictions, since that is what the groundhogs are famous for doing.

Each week we choose a word to help us improve our vocabulary.  The word may be something that is somewhat familiar or it may be a new word.  We learn where the word comes from - its etymology, and how it should be used and then we try to use it as many times as possible during the evening meeting.

A prediction is a statement or claim that a particular event will occur in the future.  This particularly struck my fancy as I thought more about it today while surfing and saw all the various "predictions" made on the intenet.  "Buy my product/plan and you will be able to retire in 30 days."  "You will be able to quit your job and make millions of dollars."  "You will never have to work again if you follow my 3 steps to wealth (or 5 steps or 7 steps, or whatever the number may be this time.)"  These particular predictions might have as much chance of coming true as the groundhogs predictions, or maybe even less since even the groundhogs are shown to be 37% accurate.

The reality of network marketing is that unless you know what you want, know what you are doing, and are prepared to work at it, you won't be successful.  Most of the information I have read predicts that only 5% of those of us who are doing internet marketing will reach a point where we will be making thousands of dollars and retiring in luxury.  It is predicted that the rest of us will give up in frustration after having made nothing at all.

If you want to be more successful, find a mentor that you can work with who will show you the ropes, pick a product or niche that people are interested in, start slowly and don't spend more than you can afford to lose.  Don't be taken in by all the offers that are floating around.

If you want a good solid place to start with some good solid information, I recommend Rob Gehring's 10Khits4u program and/or Joel Terrien's kiosk.  I predict that you will be on the road to success if you follow the training provided by these gentlemen.  There are some others that I can direct you to, but start here.

Success

2006-01-25 Posted at 10:29:37 PM

Just a little reminder about what Success really is..........  according to Ralph Waldo Emerson

"To laugh often and much;

to win the respect of intelligent people

and the affection of children;

to earn the appreciation of honest critics

and endure the betrayal of false friends;

to appreciate beauty;

to find the best in others;

to leave the world a bit better,

whether by a healty child,

a garden patch or

a redeemed social condition;

to have played with enthusiasm

and sugn with exultation;

to know even one life has breathed easier

because you hve lived.

This is to have succeeded."

I wish you all this success!!!

Drive Carefully

2006-01-22 Posted at 09:12:29 PM

I just received this in an email and wanted to share it

 -- Read This Slowly --

Jack took a long look at his speedometer before slowing down: 73 in a 55 zone. Fourth time in as many months. How could a guy get caught so often?

When his car had slowed to 10 miles an hour, Jack pulled over, but only partially. Let the cop worry about the potential traffic hazard. Maybe some other car will tweak his backside with a mirror. The cop was stepping out of his car, the big pad in hand.

Bob? Bob from Church? Jack sunk farther into his trench coat. This was worse than the coming ticket. A cop catching a guy from his own church. A guy who happened to be a little eager to get home after a long day at the office. A guy he was about to play golf with tomorrow.

Jumping out of the car, he approached a man he saw every Sunday, a man he'd never seen in uniform.

"Hi, Bob. Fancy meeting you like this."

"Hello, Jack." No smile.

"Guess you caught me red-handed in a rush to see my wife and kids."

"Yeah, I guess." Bob seemed uncertain. Good.

"I've seen some long days at the office lately. I'm afraid I bent the rules a bit -just this once."  Jack toed at a pebble on the pavement. "Diane said something about roast beef and potatoes tonight. Know what I mean?"

"I know what you mean. I also know that you have a reputation in our precinct"

Ouch. This was not going in the right direction. Time to change tactics. "What'd you clock me at?"

"Seventy. Would you sit back in your car please?"

"Now wait a minute here, Bob. I checked as soon as saw you. I was barely nudging 65." The lie seemed to come easier with every ticket.

"Please, Jack, in the car"

Flustered, Jack hunched himself through the still-open door. Slamming it shut, he stared at the dashboard. He was in no rush to open the window.

The minutes ticked by. Bob scribbled away on the pad.

Why hadn't he asked for a driver's license?

Whatever the reason, it would be a month of Sundays before Jack ever sat near this cop again. A tap on the door jerked his head to the left. There was Bob, a folded paper in hand Jack rolled down the window a mere two inches, just enough room for Bob to pass him the slip.

"Thanks." Jack could not quite keep the sneer out of his voice.

REMEMBER Read This Slowly

Bob returned to his police car without a word. Jack watched his retreat in the mirror. Jack unfolded the sheet of paper. How much was this one going to cost?

Wait a minute. What was this? Some kind of joke?

Certainly not a ticket. Jack began to read:

"Dear Jack, Once upon a time I had a daughter. She was six when killed by a car. You guessed it- a speeding driver. A fine and three months in jail, and the man was free. Free to hug his daughters, all three of them. I only had one, and I'm going to have to wait until Heaven before I can ever hug her again.

A thousand times I've tried to forgive that man. A thousand times I thought I had. Maybe I did, but I need to do it again. Even now. Pray for me. And be careful, Jack, my son is all I have left."

"Bob"

Jack turned around in time to see Bob's car pull away and head down the road. Jack watched until it disappeared. A full 15 minutes later, he too, pulled away and drove slowly home, praying for forgiveness and hugging a surprised wife and kids when he arrived.

Life is precious. Handle with care. This is an important message; please pass it along to your friends. Drive safely and carefully. Remember, cars are not the only things recalled by their maker.

Have a safe and happy 2006

ABC's of Internet Marketing

2006-01-20 Posted at 01:16:49 AM

ABC’s of Internet Marketing

A – Ask for Advice.  A good place to start is with Tony Tezak's Guide.  “One of the most comprehensive manuals on using traffic exchanges ever published.”

B – Be Real – put your picture on your site, be available for people to contact you.  Make a personal splash page to advertise your site or product.  Not sure how to make a splash page?  Check out Jon Olsonhttp://www.hitexchangesurvivalkit.com/alacarte.php

C – Consult  Talk to your upline, your program director, attend conferences – online and offline, encourage your downline.

D – Develop Mentors   Find out who is the best at what you want to do.  Call them, write them, ask them questions and develop yourself with their advice.

E – Explore your options  Take some time to make your decisions, don’t just jump in.  If you are new to Internet Marketing and want some good advice, come to Rob Gehring’s 10Khits

F – Focus, focus, focus  If you try to do too many things you won’t accomplish anything you’ll be too busy running around.

G – Goal setting  What do you want to accomplish?  Do you want to be rich?  What is your definition of rich?  $500 / day, $10,000 / day?  $100,000 / year?  Break your goal down into smaller steps.  Are you selling a $30 product?  How many sales will it take to reach your goal?  How will you achieve that?

H – Help others  Share your expertise, build your network of friends.  You never know who will be in a position to help you later.

I – Information – there is a lot of information to help you get started, sometimes too much.  Try to focus on the main priorities.  What do you need to know first?

J – Join others at conferences (both online and offline) as often as possible.  Talk to them about what is working and what isn’t.

K – Keep going.  Most people quit too soon – before all their hard work has a chance to pay off.

L – Learn as much as you can.  Never think you know it all.  There is always someone who knows something more or different.  Find that person and pick their brain.

M – Make the most of your advertising dollars.  Figure out what you can afford and the best place to advertise your particular product or service.  One that I really like is Traffic Swarm

N – Never trash talk another person.  It only hurts you in the long run.

O – Online is not the only way.  Try some offline methods too.  Make up business cards with your website.  Post flyers with your website information.  Put an ad in the paper to direct people to your site.

P – Pay attention to what is going on.  What are the trends?  Who are the money makers?  How can you find out more?

Q – Quit whining about your lack of sales.  Look at what works and do more of it.  If nothing is working, find someone to help you figure out why.

R – Rest and Relaxation  Take time for your family.  Don’t become so focused on making money that you forget the real meaning of life.

S – Simplify  It’s all to easy to get caught up in the latest rush for this product or that product.  Take some time to see if it fits your target market – if not, leave it alone.

T – Track your advertising.  You need to know what is working for you.  There are a number of programs you can use.

U – Understand your limits.  Understand what Internet Marketing is all about.  If you don’t understand it, you won’t be successful.

V – Vision leads to Victory  Make sure you keep your vision clear and in the forefront, then follow the steps to victory.

W – Wisdom, not wishing is what makes things happen.  It takes a lot of work to get it right.  Don’t fall for those ads that say you can be making thousands of dollars overnight.  Anyone can  -  if they have thousands to invest to start off.

X – Xpect failure.  That’s how you learn what works and what doesn’t.

Y – You are the only person you can count on.  You are the one who has to make it happen.  You are the CEO of your life.

Z – Zeal is necessary for success.  Zero is what you will get if you don’t have it.

Thanks to Richard Taylor  Advertising KnowHow, Click Crazey, Hits Connect and Focus 4 the Future among others, Jon Olson, ProTrafficShop and many others, Rob Gehring, 10KHits4U, and Joe Sansoucie, Frog Search.  You all inspired me and made my night with the “after hours” discussion in the conference room on Wednesday January 18th, 2006. (I couldn't even go right to sleep after Joe closed the conference room.  I had gone to bed, turned out the lights and then I jumped back up, grabbed some paper and wrote the ABC's.....LOL)

Keep on keeping on.....all the best in 2006.... let's make it the best year ever!!!!

Secrets of Blissful Relationships

2006-01-18 Posted at 05:35:23 PM

SECRETS OF BLISSFUL RELATIONSHIPS

Is Your Marriage Going Broke?

by Michael Webb

http://www.50secrets.com/

Have you noticed that newspapers report that personal debt is at an all-time high and so are divorces?  Do you think there might be a connection?

In marital surveys, money and sex usually come up as the top two reasons for major discord between a husband and wife.

One of the biggest problems facing couples today is the huge amount of debt they bring into their marriage.  Not only are there more divorces, couples are calling it quits much earlier in their marriage than ever before.

One sure-fire way to insure a rocky start for a marriage is to have tens of thousands of dollars in debt (from student loans, credit cards or other bills).  Even a thousand dollars in debt can cast a dark cloud over your relationship if you don't have the means to quickly repay it.

Consider the rate of suicide during the great depression.  The stresses of mounting debt have pushed people to take their own lives and have been a major cause in the death of many, many marriages.

If you want to have a blissful relationship, you will need to get your debt under control (or at least a plan to do so).  Otherwise, your debt will physically and psychologically control you.

Here are some tips for getting and staying out of debt.

When you get a paycheck, the first thing you do is set aside money for charity/church.  Doesn't seem logical but it works.

Sit down with your partner and discuss all aspects of your family budget.  Only when you analyze your spending habits will you fully realize where you are wasting money.  It s a great opportunity to talk about your goals and dreams.

Realize that frivolously spending money can be a sign of disrespect for your marriage and mate.

If you would like a bigger diamond ring or a fancier car, ask yourself why.

Take a quick inventory of all the items you own but could really live without.  Consider how much you paid for them.  What if you didn't buy those items and had all that money in savings instead?

Would it make a difference in how you view your job, your family and your future?

Something to think about...

*****************************

As I read this article I took a quick inventory of all the items I own that I could live without.  The boxes of cotton material that I was going to make quilts out of, the yarn that I was going to knit sweaters out of, the craft items for the projects that I was going to make...... (I am planning on having a Quilters and Crafters sale in March to dispose of them and gain some extra $$ for my coffers.)......  And then there are the hundreds of books that I have stacked in every room of my house, some I've read, and some I haven't read, some I would part with wnd some I wouldn't.  Some I would give to the Library if I was sure they would keep them and not sell them, but I suppose once I give them away I shouldn't be concerned about what happens to them.  ....*deep sigh*  Just thinking about how rich I would be if I hadn't spent thousands of dollars on these items..... oh well, I am rich in knowledge anyway......LOL

All the best to you and yours....may you be blessed with knowledge and riches!!

Unexpected Holiday...sort of

2006-01-18 Posted at 11:00:47 AM

Well, here I am at the computer writing an entry for my blog instead of being at the office working....thanks to the freezing rain last night and my offer to check in on my boyfriend's house while he was away.

I decided to stay over rather than drive the rest of the way home last night because the roads were so bad, however this morning I slid sideways down his driveway and then got my car stuck in the middle of the road, finally got it going again and parked it for a while.  Went out again and tried to turn around in the neighbour's driveway where I once again slid sideways.  At that point I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and parked it once again.  I threw salt down and eventually I will be able to go somewhere, but for now I will just sit back with a cup of java and play / work on the computer.

Time to grab another cup.....have a wonderful day, no matter what you are doing!!!

The Training Effect

2006-01-15 Posted at 01:32:47 PM

The Training Effect  by James Maduk

Scientists tell us that are mind and body are designed to strengthen and improve with regular exercise thanks to what is called "The Training Effect".

As Sales Professionals we should always be on the look out for opportunities to leverage the "Sales Training Effect".

Jeff Galloway is an experienced marathon runner and has introduced hundreds of thousands of people to long distance running and is an expert on the "Training Effect".

Gallowaysays, "After more than four decades of running I feel great on almost every one of my runs because I've learned this secret of the training effect'.

After 20 years of selling I feel great on almost every sales call because I've learned the secret of the "sales training effect".

Galloway says there's four key things that we have to do when we train to make sure we improve our results. The good thing is about the training effect is that our bodies and minds are designed as a self-improvement system and that doesn't require huge amounts of effort in terms of training either physical or mental to improve or increase our results. The key to the "training effect" is found when you're training for the long term.

A sales team can only improve their results in five ways:

  1. Reduce the time of each transaction
  2. Increase the revenue per transaction
  3. Improve the number of opportunities
  4. Increase the amount of selling time/activity
  5. Increase the Number of Sales People

With the exception of adding sales staff all of these strategies require sales training. Sales people know instinctively that they should always be improving their skills. Yet finding time to upgrade them is even more difficult with today's fast pace. Time constraints, inconsistent delivery, lost opportunities combined with the lack of a measurable return on investment are common complaints.

The question we should ask ourselves is; What is the optimal amount of sales training required to induce the "Sales Training Effect"?

For Sales Professionals who are committed to the long tern as sales professionals the way to induce the training effect is keep in mind these four principles.

Consistency:

Galloway says you'll improve running efficiency if you do at least three 2 hour runs every week regardless of the speed at which you run. Each additional day you run per week will slightly improve your conditioning but it will also increase your risk of injury and fatigue. Too many running days in a row even when you run slowly won't give your muscles the timeout necessary for rebuilding.

When training for sales we have to make sure that we train on a consistent basis. Training for one week a year is not going to get us into the winner's circle. Training seven days a week will never give us any time with our customers and prospects.

Goal: Set a Target of 30 minutes each week to upgrade your skills.

Specificity:

Galloway says to improve your running performance when training for a marathon you have to gradually increase the duration or intensity of your work cuts until you are simulating your goal race effort.

As salespeople we must train on the specific skills, processes and tactics that will allow us to win our race. What this means is that we should train to improve the skills that will help us sell and not just learn the topics that we find easy or enjoy.

Goal: Have a co-worker or manager suggest areas where you need to improve. Upgrade these skills first

Rest:

Without rest even the most perfect workouts will not produce a training effect. If you take a day off from running after a long run or a particularly stressful workout most of the damage your body incurred will be prepared in 48 hours.

Major sales training courses, the kind of in-depth sales training that usually happens at the start of a new sales job must be followed by a rest period. Long training courses often overload our conscious minds but create positive learning at an unconscious level. The time spent directly after any training course "face to face" or "ear to ear" with your prospects and customers is when most of that learning is internalized and becomes habit.

Goal: Keep a training log and compare to the amount of time that you are engaged with your customers. Is there a balance between the two. Do you have adequate periods of rest between training and selling?

Pace

Galloway says if you run too fast on long runs or running too many speed sessions you won't reap the full benefits of the training effect. The wear and tear of your body will not be repaired in time for the next longer fast work out which makes you more fatigue rather than more efficient.

For salespeople training should become a regular structured part of your professional development. With a balance of formats, times, tactics and strategies all designed specifically to produce the results that you want.

Goal: Include several types of learning methods, groups/individual, seminars, tapes, videos, workshops, mentors, coaching, teleclasses, newsletters, WebCasts etc. Make sure to teach the task not the tool. Use only as much training as you need to get the learning done.

Long Term

As sales professionals we all run the sales marathon. Some of us are training to win; others are training just to finish. Sales training is no longer an option for those committed to a career in sales. Long term success and being able to say " After 4 decades of selling I feel great after every sales call" comes from constant and never ending improvement.

Follow the four strategies to leveraging the "Training Effect" and check out all the training assistance available at 10khits4unow.com  Weekly training conferences as well as daily support are available to  help you build your business.

Simple Plans for Social Eating and Travel

2006-01-13 Posted at 11:50:55 PM

Simple Plans for Social Eating and Travel
By: Fran Watson

It?s one thing to stick with your diet regimen when you're at home, in control of the contents of your refrigerator and your portion sizes. But what about going out to dinner with friends? Worse, how do you stay on track when your dream vacation has you seated by the dessert cart at every meal?

Eating right when you're out of your comfort zone can actually be easier than when you are at home, so long as you think smart and plan ahead. Focus on these simple tips to help you enjoy your dinners out on the town without compromising your weight loss goals. Simple Plans

Incorporate meals out like any others. Don't skip meals beforehand. Plan. Don't be afraid to call ahead and find out what the specials are going to be and figure out a couple of choices. If that?s not an option, ask someone with whom you?re comfortable sharing your dietary concerns to help you. Tell him or her what foods you can eat (or what you cannot eat) and ask the person to fill a plate for you. Or second, walk up to the buffet table(s) beforehand with no plate. Just take a casual stroll around and see which foods are being served. Then decide if you would like to ask someone else to place your selections on a plate for you or if you would prefer to get them yourself.

Eat slowly. Not only will this help with your digestion, it slows your eating down so that you notice sooner when you are full. Set your eating utensils down while you chew. Have a sip of water between bites.

Have fun along the way

Eating out is a way of building relationships, to enjoy the company of others. Unfortunately, for those of us looking to cut back on what and how much we eat, this can make previously enjoyable dinner dates a dreaded and avoided task. It doesn?t have to be this way. Opt for a restaurant with salads and low-fat menu choices instead of a place with all deep-fried batter-dipped menu items and heavy desserts.

Another option is to choose an old favourite and split it with a partner. This way, you won?t feel deprived and your portion size will automatically be limited. Not only will your waistlines be smaller, but so will your bills!

Avoid temptation

There is no law that says you must have a basket of bread, butter and oil before a meal out. If it is on your table when you are seated, request that it be brought back to the kitchen.

Set yourself up for success when you order by requesting they leave off the oils and sauces. Request that your meat and vegetables be steamed, not fried. Order a salad (with light or no dressing, on the side) or side of veggies instead of fries or mashed potatoes.

It's all in the portions

Restaurant portions are significantly larger than actual portion sizes; a half-size will more than adequately replace your normal meal size. Most restaurants offer half-sizes (at smaller prices). If these are not listed on the menu, just ask, and your request will more than likely be accommodated. Alternately, you can request your doggie bag in advance. If they don't offer to package half your meal for you, decide for yourself (before you begin eating) what an appropriate portion size is and wrap up the remainder.

There's no rule that you must order your meal from the entre list. Peruse the appetizer menu for attractive (and smaller) options. You can also create a delicious and unique meal by combining various side dishes.

Drink plenty of water before you leave for the restaurant, and while you wait for the food to arrive. This will help fill you up and prevent hunger-inspired indulgences.

Request your salad (and/or soup, if it?s not creamy) be brought out first, and dig in. By the time your food arrives, you should be able to more rationally determine what portion sizes are appropriate, and if anything needs to be avoided.

Do not order dessert until you are completely finished with your meal. You might be too full to eat dessert and remember, even if everyone is splurging on the dessert menu, you don?t have to join in just to be part of the ?gang.? Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea to end your meal. Or ask someone to split a dessert with you if there is something you really want.

Distract yourself

Vacations should be a time to indulge oneself and have fun. Though it does lead to eating out more often, it also removes many of the day's temptations. For example, you won't be wandering over to the kitchen when you're bored, or overindulging at the grocery store and then feeling "obligated" to eat what you've bought.

Spend time in the pool, on the sand, and at the shops, not at the restaurants. Most vacation hot spots are ideal for eating on the go; you can pick up a small meal from a roadside vendor and eat it while walking the boardwalk and enjoying the sights and sounds.

Don't make food about suffering. If the smell of saltwater taffy engulfs you, treat yourself to one. Having a small amount will indulge your craving without compromising your diet.

Try making a rule like, "If I eat, I need to enjoy a fun activity, too: a walk, bike ride, swim, tennis, putt-putt, etc." Then coordinate daily "pairings" or events with meal planning. Life, including vacations, does not have to be all about food. Nor does it have to focus on food.

Don't stress out!

With the right approach, eating out can be a pleasurable experience. Remember, a successful diet is a lifelong lifestyle modification. You need to be able to incorporate healthful eating out activities into your routine.

Vacations and meals out are intended to be pleasurable. If you do go a little overboard, it's important not to beat yourself up over it. Forgive yourself and get on with life. Simply use that experience to learn where you can improve the next time you are in that situation and then add some extra activities to your schedule. Swim some laps. Walk or jog. Leave your wallet in the trunk and go to a mall for a shop-walk. Take a tour. Visit a museum. Enjoy a park and feed the ducks. Just get out, focus on something else and enjoy life.
