TARANAKI - NEW ZEALAND ECONOMY IS BOOMING!
Taranaki's economy received a boost recently with the announcement, a $65 million LPG plant will be built near Waitara on land next to the McKee production station on Otaraoa Rd .
Construction will provide jobs for up to 100 workers, with most of the work likely to go to Taranaki firms.
Todd Energy is now in final negotiation with potential contractors and is aiming to get the project finished and commissioned by 2011.
The McKee project - coupled with the Kupe gas project in South Taranaki - means that New Zealand will once again be self-sufficient in liquefied petroleum gas and is likely to begin exporting through Port Taranaki.
Todd's new facility, which will extract thr LPG from gas from it's McKee and Mangahewa fields and its share of gas from the offshore Pohokura field, will annually produce 27,000 tonnes of the product.
It will then be trucked off the site for delivery to customers via Todd Energy's retail company Nova Energy.
The plant will help reduce New Zealand's dependence on imported LPG.
It is said that the site of the new LPG facility is ideal because the area was already set up for industrial activity which meant existing infrastructure could be used.

Fonterra Baby Milk Powder Scandal in China!

SAD NEWS, FOR NEW ZEALAND - FONTERRA AND FARMERS!
Fonterra Dairy Involvement with the Chinese's Killer of Babies Milk Powder Scandal is a sad week for us living in New Zealand, we are proud New Zealand Farmers, that put so much into making and doing everything in our power the right way, having good farming practices for quality milk, for all human and animal consumption, also to keep the Clean Green Image in our country which we are proud of.
Fonterra owns 43% of Sanlu and has three directors on it's board, they knew of the contamination, for the past six weeks before a public recall,( which us) the New Zealand farmers knew nothing about, until the New Zealand Government released it. " Fonterra has been a victim of a criminal contaminant" and we the New Zealand farmer are not happy to have anyone suffering, less of all innocent children and babies. Chinese state-run media announced late yesterday 17 September 2008 , that 21 more companies were found producing milk powder tainted with melamine.
New Zealand Prime Minster Helen Clark alerted the Chinese Government as soon as it became aware of the contamination, which she said "had been covered up by local authorities" we could not have it on our conscience that this was not being brought to the attention of the Chinese authorities in order for them to do something about it.
Under the Chinese law, victims of unsafe products are allowed to sue the manufacture or retailer for compensation. Andrew Ferrier, Fonterra Chief Executive, is a proud man, and we the farmers like him, (he has been a great asset to us), say's this, " It is a ethical issue of doing the right thing", let's all pray that those children get better and there are no more deaths.
Listening to the radio in New Zealand this morning, I feel very sad as Fonterra is taking the flack for this, even though it is not all fonterra blame, but it will hit back to us the New Zealander. The tainted milk powder with melamine a substance causing all those babies to be sick ,and three death already, this is terrible.
I myself a mother, grandmother and great grand mother feel very sad for those babies. "Poor little souls".
That is not what our farmers would ever want milk products to kill anyone, we the dairy farming community are very upset about this scandal and feel for all those chinese family with children suffering, if only we could turn back time.
"God Bless you all" and hope this will be a lesson to everyone, if thinking of cheating the system of anything, think of the innocent, young and vulnerable, it is not worth it.

Fonterra "no longer" Floating Shares!

SHARE FLOAT NO LONGER A OPTIONS FOR FONTERRA!
The Dairy farmers are happy now that Fonterra preferred option of publicly floating the share was no longer a option, it has been"parked".The Board would now go back and start on a review of the other options that it had put aside when coming up with its preferred option of share floating.
Too many reservations by farmers about Fonterra's preferred option for capital restructuring have prompted the co-operation board to put it aside and consider other options.
Farmers who had attended shareholder meetings said they were again feeling positive about the co-operative and that their concerns had been addressed.

Fonterra Capital Structure May Vote Cancelled!

FONTERRA'S MAY VOTE CANCELLED - FOR CAPITAL STRUCTURE PROPOSAL! A poll conducted by Fonterra showed that 41% of those that responded would not support the co-operative's capital structure proposal, as well 25% were in the "uncertain" category and many would have voted against the global expansion strategy had the May vote gone ahead, the vote needed 75% support for the proposal to go ahead. The final vote would not have been until 2010. The proposal put to farmers provided for two votes but the first vote was "not critical". According to one former shareholder council deputy chairman, the proposal was not sufficiently well developed for shareholders to make a informed dicision, also said he was concerned the board considers that shareholders support the Fonterra Strategy of "investment behind borders" because he did not think the strategy and it's risks and rewards are well understood. Fonterra Chairman Henry van der Heyden. say the majority of farmers did not want a bar of it and we have got to start again.Whether this new attempt to engage shareholders will be any more successful remains to be seen, but the lack of farmers support for the idea may be such that no amount of time and money will get the results the board desires.Most of those who came out in opposition to the proposal were clear in their assessment of what it involved - a loss of farmer control in the co-operative. It has taken 7 years for farmers to start to reap the rewards, of Fonterra being formed and many will never be convinced that handing over part of the operation to outsider is the right think to do. A new round of meetings will be held next month to allay most of the fears that shareholders have expressed to them.

Sir Edmund Hillary Has Passed Away!

SIR EDMUND HILLARY A TRUE NZ AMBASSADOR!
Friday 11 January 2008 was a sad day for New Zealand, in fact all the world, as a wonderful person known by most everyone worldwide, passed away from a heart attack, at the age of 88 years old.
New Zealand Flags are flying at half mast.
SIR EDMUND HILLARY a New Zealander conquered Mount Everest the highest mountain in the world on
May 29 1953.
He is also known for his devotion to the sherpa people of Nepal as he led the way in building schools and hospitals for the Nepalese people, he will be sadly missed by all.
He has also been envolved with Scott Base in the Antarctica where almost 50 years ago he did a overland crossing by Tractor to the South Pole.
Sir Edmund Hillary is a inspiration for generations to come, as nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.
1953 was a year for me as a 12 year old, I have never forgotten, I can still see clearly the memory of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay at the top of Mount Everest, it was a special day for all New Zealanders which the whole world will never forget as he has been such a loveable human being to all who knew him and will never be forgotten
He is the only living New Zealander who has his face on New Zealand Currency, the $5.00 note.
Sir Edmund Hillary has a son Peter who has also climb Mount Everest and two daughters, which one was killed in a air crash with his first wife Louise Rose, they died in a plane crash in Nepal in 1975.
Sir Edmund Hillery will have a State Funeral in New Zealand, it is a real honor as it is only Prime Ministers and
Governor General's have state Funerals.
He has tounched so many lives, just about every New Zealander has fond memories of Sir Edmond Hillary his legend will live on, future generations will read and hear stories, of a true Ambassador of New Zealand.

My Experience in Gisborne Earthquake Dec 2007!

EARTHQUAKE SHAKES NEW ZEALAND!
Thursday evening 20 December 2007 - 8.55pm NZ Time a 6.8 Earthquake hit New Zealand, it was centred 50 km's offshore southeast of Gisborne at the depth of 40 km, off the Mahia Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean known as the
Hikurangi Trough.
It caused extensive damage in Gisborne on the east coast of the North Island New Zealand. The CD in Gisborne took the main jolt, some 20 Buildings are badly damaged and cracks in the roadways, there was no Tsunami, but the Gisborne Mayor Meng Foon told residents to head for the hills immediately if another quack struck, as there is no tsunami warning system in place for quakes so close to the shore, thousands of residents were taking no risks and head for higher ground.
There were after shocks on friday, but only 4.2 to 4.8 on the Richter Scale.
The state of Emergenency was lifted last night Saturday 22nd 2007 at 5.12 pm.
The Earthquake was felt strongly in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, also Wellington and as far south as Christchurch on the east coast in the South Island in New Zealand.
My experience in the 6.8 earthquake in Taranaki on the west coast hill country at Okoki, inland from Urenui, was quite frightening also, my son and grandson where just coming in the driveway on their Motor bikes, there was such a great jolt to the house I thought that one of them had hit the house, but relised it was a earthquake as the house keeped on i shaking for some 2 to 3 minutes, which was quite frightening as I didn't know then where in was centered, was wondering what was going to happen next as our home is in a valley surrouded by ranges on the urenui River.
Thank goodness it stopped, not very nice, I feel for those people in Gisborne, not good for Christmas, a time of good times not clearing up after a earthquake.We can be thankful that it was not like Christmas Eve 1953 Mount Ruapehu Erupted killing 151 people as it took out the Tangiwai Railway Bridge in it's path, and the first 6 carriages of the overnight Wellington to Auckland Express Train plunged off the bridge and into the Gorge.

WHO SAY'S WOMEN CAN'T DO IT?
A Kiwi Lady shearer has broken the world record for Shearing Lambs!
Emily Wetch 27 year old lady has smashed the world record for shearing lambs beating the existing nine-hour figure for women of 541 lambs by more than one hundred, she shore 648 lambs.
When she went for lunch she had shore 394 lambs, she broke the world record at about 3030 pm shearing at the rate of about 70 lambs each hour. The record attempt began at 5.00am judges monitored quality and recorded the count.
Emily trained for the high endurance record attempt for six months, after shearing professionally for six months.
The rcord was formerly held by another New Zealander, Jill Angus Burney, who set the record in 1989 in Bennydale.
It is harder for a woman to climb the ladder in shearing as it is very hard work, very physical and you have to be determined to stick to shearing, but who said woman can't do it.
Good on you Emily for taking on the challenge, it was not easily, I think it will be some time before your record is broken of having shorn 648 Lambs in nine hours.

First Record for Taranaki's Panamax Port!

PORT TARANAKI FIRST LONGEST VESSEL BERTH!
$20 Million Harbour Deeping Project in Port Taranaki New Zealand, has had its first longest vessel berth, on Saturday November 24th 2007 in it's Panamax Port .
Maersk Duffield 45,803 gross tonne container carrier, 289 metres broke the record for the longest vessel ever to berth at New Plymouth.
It all went smoothly, a very large crowd watch as it came in at Blyde Terminal at Port Taranaki and the captain was enjoying seeing all the people that as he entered the port, he gave several blasts on the horn to celebrate which was a bit unusual for the port, but it will live in the mermories of the crowd as the first longest vessel to berth in Port Taranaki..
Captain John Ireland was the Port Taranaki Pilot responsible for guiding the Vessel to berth.

124th Annual Egmont A and P Show!

EGMONT A and P SHOW - 2007!
Egmont A and P Show held its 124th annual show at the weekend 17-18 November at Hawera in South Taranaki.
There was a huge crowd, with very hot weather, it is one off the biggest events in South Taranaki where there were indoor and outdoor trade displays, sideshow alley, equestrian events, dairy cattle and home industries.
It was it's 50th year of being held on the present site, having been relocated from what is now known as
Hicks Park in Hawera.
In fact my Great Grandfather Edward Olson was gored by one of his own predigree bulls while preparing it for judging at the Egmont A and P Show, as a result of which he died on November 2nd 1893 at the age of 50 years, he was one of the early settlers at Egmont Village not far from New Plymouth.
The Equestrian events centre is of special news, for this year has been built a huge new 68 stall block, the second biggest in New Zealand. It cost $447.000, good news for future Equestrian events.
The Show's Home Industries competitions include flowers and horticulture, knitting, novelty, crafts, cooking and baking, model building and photography, plus stores which loved by the children , kittens, chickens, lambs, rabbits and mice, all something which most children cannot resist looking at. Also plenty of the traditional sideshows.
The livestock were of very high standard as usual, it would not be a agriculture show without them. Plus the wood chopping competitions, so much energy used up, it such hot weather. Jetboat rides on the lake were very popular as a good way to cool down in the heat of the day.
As for the vintage vehicles, such as the early crawler tractors, diggers, etc which were the way our early settlers set to work with everyday, and clear land to what we now know today as New Zealand.
These A and P shows sure bring back memories of the past. It is a good time now if you are reading this blog, to give thought to our ancestor for all the hard work they put into breaking our land into what it is now, for without them,
where would we be today?.
A special thanks to all those people that spend many hours of their time for no payment at all, restoring those much loved antiques of the past.
A very enjoyable day was had by all, still a few sunburnt bodies the next day as goes to show you can never have enough Sun Cream on in the heat of the day at the Egmont A and P Show November 17-18 2007

Points About The Emissions Trading Scheme!

DISAGREEMENTS ON CARBON TRADING!
A few points about Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
The New Zealand Government is consulting now on the "core design details" of its emissions trading scheme but an indepth analysis of such schemes finds them "ineffective and unjust".
The book, Carbon Trading, a critical conversation on climate change, privatisation and power, published by Sweden's
Dag Hammarskjold Foundation, argues persuasively that carbon-trading schemes will only prolong the world's dependence on fossil fuels.
The authors agree the main cause of global warming is rapidly increasing carbon-dioxide emissions. But they say that instead of reducing the extraction of fossil fuels and encouraging the development of alternative energy and other solutions to global warming, carbon-trading policies will actually prolong the world's dependence on oil, coal and gas.
They argue in plain terms, the big polluters will continue to pollute while paying a "fine" in the form of carbon credits costs and the world's poor, mainly in the southern hemisphere countries, will see their land disappear under forests, planted to offset emissions.
Here is another theory the book argues, it is fool hardy for New Zealand to continue to release the remaining stores of carbon held in underground deposits of oil, coal and gas into a world already overburdened with carbon. Such vast stores built up over millions of years can never be recaptured on the surface within trees and soil.
So Disagreements on Carbon Trading continues, it would be off great value for anyone interested in this subject on Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to take a look at this and read for themselves, as this is a Worldwide Problem.
