News from NW England

Greetings!

It has been a very trying weekend.  I've had one of my occasional headaches that last several days, and do they hurt!

It's not only that, they really incapacitate me.  So I'm not at my best during these times.

But, and I'm really chuffed with myself about this, I did manage to do some thinking.  The result?  Well it occurred to me that when I wrote my blog, I was giving it a different title every time, which must have been confusing to anyone who fancied reading it.  It was confusing to me trying to keep track!

The upshot of this hard work, and it was very hard work at the time, is that I'm going to keep the title as is above.  Smart eh?  And it didn't take all that long for the penny to drop did it?  I don't think!  Hey, I'm suppose to be reasonably efficient at thinking, or so my qualifications tell me!

Anyway, I'm afraid other than the above, the weekend was a wash-out, so there is very little to comment on.  For the moment TTFN.

Regards.

Still black

Greetings.

Well it remains a black fill-dyke.  There are some other ditties with regard to the weather that I wonder what the complete rhyme is, or where it came from, so when I get the stanzas sorted out I'll give it a try with you knowledgable people.  (An oddity here, the spell checker says I've spelt it wrong, whereas I know it is correct?)

Not a very news-worthy time, so for the moment I'll close.

Regards.

February fill-dyke

Greetings All!

Well after our flurry of snow, and here I sympathise with Gina and how much snow she seems to have had to contend with, our delightful weather has turned to rain.  Along with low but not freezing weather temperatures, we have a dark, depressing sort of wet weather.  So, I think that February is going to be a black month.  Black, wet and miserable.  Roll on Spring!

Quiet week-end, but this morning after doing a few messages, I was invited for a lunch at a recently opened Turkish restaurant in the city.  I really enjoyed the meal and the company, but that is about all I'll eat for the rest of the day!  It must be the inaction, but child portions are about my limit these days.

Well I'm hoping for better weather tomorrow, so here's hoping that you are all being treated well.

Regards.

It Arrived!

Greetings!

The snow, I mean.  Yes it arrived.  Well a few flakes that is, but the concern it raised!

It's been a very exciting day today.  I know, I usually go to the library for my week-end reading, but today I had to attend an executive meeting of a charity I'm involved with, where I was expecting to get my wrist slapped.  The chairman actually gave a very good reply to the motion which was put in front of the committee, to the effect that as a committee we don't have any control over the personal lives of the members as long as they are not representing the charity.  Well done that chair!  There seems to be too much of this you can't do this, that, or the other, unless "we" say so.  There are some rude words I could use, but then I'm very well behaved, so you just have to imagine them.  Gina Weiss has a blog on this sort of thing, well worth a read.

From there it was a stagger down to the bus stop, and then into the local community centre for a coffee.  A very fast and exciting life I lead.  Then I was fortunate enough to get a lift home.

So for the moment, take care, and hope to be back before long.  TTFN.

Snow joke!

Greetings All!

I know!  A bit of an old joke, but like they say, "the old ones are the best".  It is supposed to read 's no joke, or more correctly, it's no joke.

But the point is, that we have been promised snow here in the UK in the middle of February!  Well near the middle, but in time for the old saw of "February fill-dyke is either black or white".  From my youth I remember this month being either rainy with fogs and really miserable or white with snow, and didn't your fingers hurt when they were thawing!?

As we are near the coast, we tend to have less of the cold extreems, but yesterday, as I ventured into town, where the sun had not shone there was quite a heavy frost on the ground, similar to this morning, but in the sun it was very pleasant and felt quite warm, given I was wrapped up in a winter coat.

More anon.  Regards...

A Weird Week

Greetings!

Well here, avid readers, is what has happened so far this week.

Sunday, I was set up to go to the local community centre AGM, when several friends dropped round for lunch.  It's not as bad as it seems.  I have to blame my memory, I'd forgotten they were coming, but it was all very enjoyable and many subjects were covered during the long conversations that went on.

The weather has been sunny but cool, especially at night, but that changed during last night when it became mild but damp, and oh boy!  are my knees suffering today.  I went out to the library, the week-end reading remember, and had to have my knees strapped up in case they let me down, and also because they ached so much!  The results of a misspent youth no doubt!

Last night, or more correctly, Wednesday evening Esti, my wife, treated me to a meal at a recently opened Thai restaurant here in Lancaster.  Really very nice, but I just don't seem to eat very much these days.  Even having a quite small meal, I still came out feeling as though I'd stuffed myself, but enjoyed it all the same!

The library.  Last week I explained finding the Beau Geste books.  I enjoyed the read but found the style a little dated.  So I tried to work out what it was about the style that is different from todays.  I think it is pace.  There was more emphasis on explaining the plot rather than letting the pace of the story carry the reader along.  But enjoyable none-the-less!

The other item of note is that I'm in the process of getting a webpage done.  Hey!  I'm getting really 21stC here, there will be no stopping me!

Until the next post, Regards.
