I lost a Friend
09:12:46 AM - 2006-06-06

I lost a friend! I lost a buddy. A man who I admired. We had many talks of life and things but we really liked to talk about our kids!  He loved his kids...so proud...I admired Doug because he would drive his kids all over town..to school..to where  they needed to go. We had supper one night at a Fish place in Beleville that I'll always remember. He drove his son to Ottawa to go to University and we spent the day talking and visiting different health food stores. He was coming back this summer to visit my home in cottage country.
I'll miss him..he was a special human being.
To Dougs family and friends I was honoured to call him a friend and if I can help with anything please give me a call.
Doug ! I'll miss you my friend!
Randy

St. Vincent
11:53:46 AM - 2006-04-13

St . Vincent is one of my favourite passengers. He always has a smile and is just a likeable person. He also is very sick and told me he really didn't have long to live.
He gets around with a walker that usually has a few beers hidden in the pockets. Don't worry he saves these for when he gets home. St Vincent was in the army and he learned to fight to kill, in his special unit. He also became a boxer. I get the feeling that St Vincent really should be in a home so he gets better care but That would be like a cage for him. I think he does quite well by himself.
Anyway, I usually drive him to St Vincent de Paul where he looks for things he can use. Than pick him up on my return trip where he shows me the deals he got. " Home St Vincent " I say..  " Yes please" he replys..I'm tired tonight.  "Take Care St Vincent  see you soon my Friend'"I say...
Funny you think your just a Bus Driver...Drive people home ..then forget about work...
No you meet so many nice people that make you smile, make you happy and also can make you sad.
I am lucky to know people like St Vincent....Thank you Lord.

The Duke of Somerset
05:58:43 PM - 2006-04-09

Driving a City Bus you meet all kinds of people good and bad. The Duke of Somerset fits the good and the bad. I have kicked him off the bus for being rowdy to other passengers and let him on when he is in a good mood.
He is a street person who has his own territory, the corner of Somerset and Elgin St in Ottawa. The Duke of Somerset once got on and asked me to lower the knelling feature on the bus because of his poor heart. As he was getting on he put his hand on his heart and said "me heart,me heart. Two passengers quickly helped him to a seat. One caring person mentioned to the Duke he shouldn't drink with such a bad heart. I am smiling to myself as I know what the Duke is doing. You see the Duke is a bit of a con and it worked as he never paid his fare. The caring customers giving him a nice seat and the Duke is in his glory knowing he didn't pay.
Well The bus stalled and wouldn't start and I couldn't move. I called control to send someone to fix the bus. I also kept on trying to get the bus going. Well the Duke became very impatient and wanted off the bus after a few choice words he stormed off the bus jumping to the ground and walking quickly away. The caring passenger went to the door and yelled to the Duke. " Be very careful as you shouldn't drink with your bad heart! "
I wanted to let the passenger know the truth but couldn't as it would have been wrong. But I knew the truth!
Another time he got on with a young friend  first asking if it was ok? He was well lubricated  at 11:00am. Are you going to be good? I replied
Yes Sir!  My dad is paying! His dad being 15 years younger then him. On his way to the back he was a charmer to all the women on the bus. Asking how they were today? and what a beautiful day it was.
All nice nothing bad.
They finally got off after saying their Goodbyes to everyone. Woo  What a relief!  A passenger asked me
why I let them on? I said he promised to be good and he was but I admit it feels great to see them get off I haven't seen him in awhile I hope he is ok?

Bus driver moments
08:52:33 PM - 2006-02-26

Well a few things happened recently that got a chuckle out of me and my customers.
One cold morning I was driving in Downtown Ottawa on Rideau St( a main street in Ottawa) and noticed fog had set in that area. Rideau changes to Wellington St ( Canada's Parliment Buildings are on this street) and as I approched I look at the buildings and noticed that Parliment was in session.
I said "Ah now I know why it's all that hot air". At the stop many people got off and to chuckles I said" present company excluded" People were smiling and they were starting their day with a chuckle.
One day I had a half bus load and I picked up a man who sat down at the back. In a short time I looked in the mirror and saw him taking a big draw on a cig or pot? I stopped the bus and got up and quickly said  "OK Get out". when I turned around 10 people were rushing to the doors including the smoker. I said " not you guys the guy smoking  at the back". they returned. I started to drive and said to myself I wonder what the other guys were doing? I also couldn't remember the last time so may people listened to me!
More to come

Doctor Knows Best
04:18:47 PM - 2005-06-25

Well, as you have noticed I haven't started yet!

I talked with a few members and they suggested that I see a Doctor before I started to make sure it was safe. I did that on Thursday and since my blood pressure was a little higher then normal he gave me some pills to reduce my blood pressure. I was taking these pills but ran out a few months ago . It makes sense to ensure my blood pressure is under control before I start.

That day is Sunday June the 26th.
