UK University Student is Half Way to 1 Million Dollars Selling A

The Crazy Website idea by Alex Tew has allready raked in over $500,000 since he started the site back in August to fund his University education.

The site, http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com sells advertising by the pixel. The minimum graphic size is 10x10 pixels which costs $100. Thats $1 per pixel.

Alex also has a Blog on his site,  http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/blog.php which makes some interesting reading.

The allready well over 500 new pixel advertising sites based on Alex Tew's original MillionDollarHomepage. Check out this pixel directory at http://www.thepixelwars.com which now lists over 500 pixel sites including over 30 FREE Pixel sites.

This pixel Ad format could well spread to other forms of advertising like the good old fashioned link page.

What Ever Happened To Instant On Computers

Many years ago, you could switch on a computer, it would beep twice and you were ready to go in one second flat.

A great example is the good old BBC Microcomputer.

Back then, If you had a hard drive you were concidered the elite.
Press SHIFT+BREAK to load your hard drive menu, then one keypress and your program of choice would load in around .75 seconds flat.

The good old BBC Micro runs on a 6502 microprocessor clocked as 2MHZ unless you were a geek like me replacing the 6502 with a card containing a 4MHZ version of the 6502 and extra ram.

Again, I have to wonder what happened to instant on.

The fantastic arcade games like Planetoid, probably better known as Defender were all the rage in the arcades and amazing programming to fit that into just 32K...

... especially when you concider that that graphics memory is 20K and several K used by the program as scratchspace. Not much memory is left for the actual program. Just amazing stuff.

Even more amazing is how the developers managed to actually compile the thing because they had to have the source code in memory at the same time.

My hat goes off though to whoever programmed programmed the Chess program for the ZX81 that fitted into an incredible 1K of memory. Thats much less than the number of charcacters on this page. Just amazing.

Firefox 1.1 will have drag and drop tabs.

I did not anticipate this but it looks like Firefox 1.1 will have drag and drop re-ordering of tabs. I have no idea what Internet Explorer 7 has in store regarding Tab Browsing yet. If anyone does, let me know.

Anyone interested in Firefox development should check out http://forums.mozillazine.org and specifically the Firefox Build section here  http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23
