An American Halloween

The history of the day is one of religious traditions, sacrifices and folklore. While it may be difficult to understand the motivation of their actions, it's good to know the roots of our current practices of Halloween.

Most of the customs connected with Halloween day are remnants of ancient religious beliefs and rituals, first of the Druids who celebrated "Samhain" as the close of harvest and the initiation of the winter season and then Roman Christians who observed "All Hallows Day" to honor all Saints in heaven.

Today, in America, it's simply a long-established tradition celebrated with fun, costumes, and candy and no thought to religious rituals or connotations.
