How to Create an Allergy Free Bedroom Environment

Individuals that are sensitive to dust, especially if they have asthma or allergies,

may reduce some of their discomfort by creating a bedroom that is "dust free". Dust

often contains mold, fibers, dander from cats, dogs and other animals. Dust mites live

in bedding, furniture and carpets. If you shake out your bedding in a beam of sunlight,

you will see particles floating in the air. These are possibly dead mites and waste

product that can cause you allergic reactions.

You may not be able to control the dust conditions under which your work or where you

spend your day, but you can influence where you live. Let's look at what it takes to

eliminate or at least reduce the amount of dust in your bedroom. One way to do that is

to reduce the number of surfaces where dust can settle. We don't mean you have

to live in an empty bedroom, but we will suggest some ways to reduce the opportunities

for dust to collect. This should help reduce your allergies.

First, let's address the carpeting in your bedroom. All carpets trap dust, with shag

carpets being the worst. If you can stand bare floors, then linoleum or hardwood

floors are the best. If you must have the carpet, you can consider treating the

carpet with an agent that kills the mites. The disadvantage is that these treatments

must be repeated.

Next, let's look at the bed itself. If at all possible, you should only have one bed in

the room. Consider covering the mattress and box springs in a zippered plastic cover to

trap the dust inside and not allow more to collect on the mattress. If you have allergies

to dust, you most likely will be allergic to animals like cats and dogs. Keep the pets

out of the bedroom if at all possible.

Minimizing the amount of furniture can be very hard, but remember, we want to reduce

the amount of surfaces for dust to accumulate. Avoid cloth covered furniture, blinds and

curtains that will catch more dust. Items that are metal or wood can be cleaned more

easily and wiped clean. You may want to wash the curtains as often as once per week

along  with the bedding. Clean the entire room weekly and keep the windows and door

closed when not occupied.

What about the air? There are special air filters that can be added to your central heating/

air conditioning unit.  These filters are HEPA or electrostatic and are designed to remove

allergens from the air as it is circulated through your unit. You can also get a small

air filtering unit for your bedroom to further clean the air. Remember to keep the windows

and outside doors closed.

Finally, a dehumidifier could help because dust mites thrive in high humidity. These little

units have small filters that need to be cleaned frequently to avoid growing mold. Just

be careful not to get the room too dry or you may trigger some irritation in your nose and

lungs.

These steps may seem like a lot of work just to reduce the dust, but with time it will be come

easier to do. Remember, it is to your benefit to reduce the dust, the sources of the dust and

keep things as clean as possible. Your freedom from allergies is the goal after all!

Today's Allergy Report

Recent rains have kept most airborn allergens out of the air. Mold spores were the only thing showing up today and on the high side. Samples taken are reported in grains per cubic meter of air. Air samples are collected daily by various sources such as the local news stations using an air sampler designed specifically for this purpose. KVUE is the only local television station in the region to take daily pollen counts and the only source for pollen counts every day of the year. The numbers reported reflect the most recent reading. The mold count was high for today. So if mold is one of your allergies, you are probably being affected.

Podcasting

I just setup this new site on podcasting because I recently saw on television that it seems people are using their iPods to send videos and audio to each other. Following is an excerpt from my site.

Podcasting is audio content, such as a MP3 Player, that is sent over a RSS feed. It is a file that is downloadable for use over the internet. The name is misleading though, as it infers that you must have an iPod to use it. You only need a computer or laptop to access podcasts. This process is fairly new, becoming popular in 2000. Technology allowed it to be used by multiple components as early as 2001. However, it wasn’t until 2003 that podcasting became very popular on everyday websites. Now in 2007 it has become very common place to do this all the time.

The process of podcasting is very simple. Computer files in multimedia format are downloaded to a server. The customer can then download them in a matter of seconds from the server onto their own system. It allows the user to see the audio and have sound at the same time. Downloading can be frustrating for users who don’t have the proper bandwidth to view them. This can be easier fixed by downloading software online or having a computer installer do it for you at a reasonable cost. Basically, the faster your connection, the better you will be able to view podcasts.

Motivation: How to keep your daily motivation going

I just setup this new site on motivation because I recently saw on television that it seems people are finding it harder to get motivated to get up and go to work each day.  Following is an excerpt from my site.

One of the biggest problems that many people face in their lives is their lack of daily motivation especially when they are actually trying to better themselves. For many people it is an easy problem to face and they will know how to combat it, but for others they need a little help in order to get things kick started. Below we provide some ways in which you can help to give your motivation on a daily basis a kick start.

1. Desire. Many people find that by seeing the rewards they will receive often motivates them to get on with the many tasks in hand that they face on a daily basis.

2. Energy. Every one needs energy and having more helps you to face the day much better so get plenty of sleep, exercise on a regular basis and what you eat. Certainly cut back on the sugary foods as they will help to kill your motivation before it has even got going.

Male Menopause or Andropause

I just setup this new site on male menopause because I recently saw on television that it seems to be occurring more lately, even in younger men. This condition, sometimes called andropause, normally occurs as men get older and there testosterone levels drop. Following is an excerpt from my site.

Male menopause?
'Is there such thing?' I hear you say. The answer is simply yes, there is indeed a phenomenon called male menopause and this site is dedicated to finding the facts and figures about this little talked about condition that affects men worldwide.

Everyone knows that women go through menopause once they hit the middle age mark. They experience symptoms such as hot flashes, hormonal changes, depression and irritability.

There is another name for male menopause - andropause. Andropause is used to replace the word menopause because many people believe that men are not going through the same changes as women do, therefore it should not be called menopause. As mentioned, male menopause is different from female menopause. In women, the sex hormones completely reduce and eventually disappear which then leads to loss of fertility.

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day!  I hope everyone has a great holiday and enjoys being with family and friends.  If you are driving or traveling somewhere I hope you will have a safe trip.  I know we all look forward to seeing family and friends and having parties, celebrations, parades or backyard barbeques.  But, let's not forget what the original intent of Memorial Day was all about.  It was intended to recognize those people that lost their lives in wars defending our country or helping our friends in another country.

If weather permits, fly your flags, put out flowers and celebrate with friends.  Remember the dead fallen heroes and recognize those veterans that are living for their sacrifice and service to our great country and the world.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all my female friends from the Moneylegs family of programs.  Mother's day is a very special occasion when we get to recognize our mothers for one day out of the year. But is this enough?  I realize that this is one special day set aside to make sure we all remember to celebrate our mothers, but shouldn't we let them know how much we love them everyday?

So you say that you cannot afford to buy a gift.  How about giving your mother a hug?  Hugs are free, non fatting, fully returnable, non polluting and non taxable.  Imagine that, our government has not figured out how put a tax on hugs yet.  Anyway, I hope everyone either had a great day as a mother or you remembered to at least call your mother on this special day.
