Golf Aholics - Merry Christmas!

Well golfaholics, the last PGA event on TV this year is the
Wendy's 3 Tour Challenge which will be shown on
December 18th. So that must mean it Christmas time!

I am not offended if someone says "Happy Hanukkah" to me?

So therefore - don't tell me I cannot say "Merry Christmas"!  If you don't like
the customs in this nation, get your butt outta here!!! How's that for infringing
on your beliefs!?

On a more cheerful note, Diane and I wish each of you (golfaholic or not)
a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  May 2006 be a prosperous year
for each and everyone of you!

Tookie Williams - Its Done

Stanley 'Tookie' Williams was pronounced dead at 12:35 AM PST today by
San Quentin Prison officials.  With lots of death penalty opponents including the
Rev. Jessie Jackson, Jamie Foxx and others present calling it "state-sponsored murder".
Justice has now been served, though it took a long time for Tookie's sentence to be
finalized.

Since Williams showed no remorse nor ever admitted his guilt, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger
stated he found no reason to grant clemency in a statement released yesterday.

Schwarzenegger Says 'NO' To Tookie Williams

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger refused to grant clemency to Stanley 'Tookie' Williams
who is scheduled to b executed early Tuesday morning barring a last minute stay
by the US Supreme Court. Just before Schwarzenegger announced his decision,
the 9th U.S. Circuit of Appeals denied Williams' request for a reprieve, saying there was
no "clear and convincing evidence of actual innocence." His lawyers planned to take their
case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The governor noted that Williams dedicated his 1998 book "Life in Prison" to a list of
figures that included the black militant George Jackson -  "a significant indicator that
Williams is not reformed and that he still sees violence and lawlessness as a legitimate
means to address societal problems."

California State Supreme Court Rebukes Tookie

The state Supreme Court late Sunday refused to grant a stay of execution for
gang member and convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, meaning Williams
will be executed early Tuesday unless the governor grants clemency or a last-ditch
federal appeal succeeds.

Schwarzenegger Delays Tookie Decision

Today, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger delayed a much
awaited announcement on whether he would grant clemency to
former Crips gang leader Stanley Tookie Williams, who is due
to be executed on Tuesday.

Williams' supporters seemed disheartened by the delay, which
they said was putting "severe stress on them and Williams",
who was convicted of murdering four people in 1979.

Barbara Becnel, who edited Williams' anti-gang books,
said "I see that as cruel," during a news conference on Sunday
afternoon. Becnel and other supporters presented what they
called "new last-minute information" they say merits a stay of
execution.

As Williams awaited the clemency decision, his lawyers had
presented a new petition to the California Supreme Court.

Officials will administer a lethal injection to Williams at 12:01 a.m.
on Tuesday at San Quentin State Prison, barring clemency or
last-minute court intervention.

The Williams case has generated widespread interest and passionate
debate over the death penalty in the United States because Williams
has written a series of anti-gang books warning young people against
gangs and says he has earned the right to live.

Since Williams has never confessed to the killings, how can he expect
to earn "redemption" for something he supposedly never did in the first
place???

Others say he is a con man angling for his freedom. "I don't

think a murderer like Stanley Williams can be reformed," says

Nancy Ruhe-Munch, executive director of Parents of Murdered Children,

a victims advocacy group.

Legally, clemency refers to outright pardons or reduction

to a lesser sentence, such as life in prison. Did you know clemency

is a very old tradition?  Pilate, after taking a voice vote from the throngs

of visitors, granted clemency to Barabbas instead of Jesus? 

Think about that!

How ironic that Mr. Olympia apparently met Williams at

Venice's Muscle Beach when they were avid bodybuilders in

Los Angeles during the early 70's.  'Tookie', during a interview with

Reuters' Adam Tanner, smiled as he told of how he impressed

Schwarzenegger when they first met. "I met Arnold in the gym

on the boardwalk", he said. "He told some woman 'Those aren't

arms, they are thighs.'"  Now Mr. Olympia has the final decision

if Tookie is to live or die since all appeals have been exhausted.

The New York Times'  Mark Essig's article

"Clemency for a Crip" stated 'MERCY' is not the first word that

comes to mind when you think of Gov. Schwarzenegger! 

However, the Governor has been noted for his "maverick" decisions

and even close supporters have no idea what he will do?

Is it the four brutal murders or is it the anti-gang books

written by Stanley Williams, that is going to win the mind of

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger later this week?

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has an all-important

clemency review this week for former Crips co-founder

Stanley 'Tookie" Williams.  How ironic is it  - Williams' execution

date is scheduled for the 13th of December?

Barbara Becnel, editor of Williams' anti-gang books, stated the

governor could help his political image by sparing the inmate's life.

Williams himself, has generated a huge public campaign calling for

clemency because of his anti-gang books aimed at inner-city youth. 

However one must not forget he was convicted of four brutal killings

25 years ago.

Again, this has enraged both sides of the issue since the Supreme

Court reinstated capital punishment back in 1976.  Williams' case is

one of several that has drawn attention to the United States' use of the

death penalty.  The execution toll passed an 'historic' milestone last

last week of 1,000 adding additional pressure on Schwarzenegger to
