Pittsburgh Sports Talk From Chuck
A Pittsburgher living in Dayton writes..........
1. To those who say the refs gave the Steelers the win on Thursday, let's talk!
The coaches have all the power to prove the refs are fallible. Miami's assistants in the booth can't execute on how to appeal a bad call, while Nick Saban walks gingerly toward the refs with the red flag, therefore unable to execute a replay after the extra point's been kicked.
2. An end of an era's is likely in sight. News reports in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette confirm that the Pittsburgh Pirates are on the move to 104.7 WPGB-FM (aka the former WYDD). This means the Bucs leave KDKA-AM after 50 consecutive years at the 1020 frequency. Personally, I'm not surprised by this move. The Pirates are trying to covet a younger audience and it seems KDKA in spite of a 50-thousand watt signal can't deliver it. My question is who's at fault? Is it KDKA who kind of poo-poos progress at times (remember dropping music back in 1991 for talk?) and feels that's its call letters, signal and history are at times plenty enough? Is it 104.7's parent company Clear Channel Communications who continues to buy up and control everything? Is it the Pirates who can't seem to do nothing but lose? Is it just the general audience who drops Baseball in popularity behind Football and other sports? It's hard to say.

Pittsburgh Steelers rule Monday Nights!
..............and Thursday's too! Great open with a decisive win over those Miami Fish. Charlie was great in relief of Ben; maybe another week off for Big Ben? So what's with Nick Saban and his passive attitude toward throwing that little flag. Come on buddy, get COWERCIZED! Hey, doesn't Mr. Nick look like someone familiar?
