Pittsburgh Steelers on the Way to Detroit
Well, it is official..........The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to face the Seattle Seahawks in SuperBowl 40. It has been 10 years since the Steelers have been in a Super Bowl. It has been 26 years since the Steelers have won a Super Bowl. I hearby dedicate this game to two special guys:
1) My Grandfather (Read an earlier entry where I mention him in relation to the Immaculate Reception). 2) My Son Jacob (Read about Jake in Horsey Ball above too).
Grandpap was a Steeler Fan thru and thru. Sadly, was is the correct tense for he passed on Thanksgiving of 1990. He lived to see me Graduate from College and get my first job. He did not live long enough to see Mr. Bill Cowher take the coaching reins from the venerable Charles Henry Noll. Grandpap would have loved the cement block jawed Cowher. A blue collar working man's man through and through. Grandpap was an odd cross of Blue Collar/White Collar. Here was a guy that owned and did the labor in his Feed Store. Then translated that into a Real Estate and tax career.......all with a 6th Grade Education. The two of us used to watch every game together..........and this shall happen again on 2/5/06.........with an added third member.
Enter Jacob John Gehring, born November 27, 1997. Thanksgiving is an odd holiday for me....... I saw one life exit and another one enter. What a wide spectrum there. Anyway, Jake loves football, and hates losing. He would rather root against the Steelers than accept the fact that they could lose a game. He's on board now though, as things look very promising. Still too young to figure if he is a bandwagon guy or not..........guess time will tell. Irregardless, I love him just the same and I am proud to call him my son. We shall be watching, with Great-GrandDad, to see if this is the one for the thumb. It's been 26 long years........do you not think this is the perfect time?
HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

Pittsburgh Steelers Move to Indianapolis
Cheapshot artists?
It was nice to see that the Cincinnati Bengals completely backed up the assertion in yesterday's game recap
that they were a bunch of amateurs.
Instead of showing some class the way a Pro should they decided to act like four year old children
after their loss. First off, they were upset about losing their QB. That is understandable, but it
did not cost them the game. Cincinnati Bengals twice jumped out to a 10 point lead
without their ace, but as usual their defense blew it. Losing Palmer became a convinient excuse.
Quite frankly, John Kitna has been a thorn in the side of the Steelers and I've always considered
him a savvy veteran. He came in and I don't think the Bengals could have done any better with Carson Palmer in
the first half. The second half a different story. John Kitna showed some rust with some poor
decisions and a lack of poise down the stretch. Would the Cincinnati Bengals have won with Palmer, who will
ever know. But I don't think that John Kitna should take the brunt of the blame.
Certainly no cheapshot by Kimo, but that is an easy excuse or a tough loss. So, on to Indy.
The Indianapolis Colts earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC with their 14-2 record. That guarantees
home-field advantage in Sunday's divisional game and the Jan. 22 conference championship game,
providing they handle the Steelers. Playing at home, though, guarantees nothing. Since the
current playoff format was adopted in 1990, only six of the 15 No. 1 seeds in the AFC have advanced
to the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh is 7-2 on the road this year, including Sunday's wild-card win at
Cincinnati. We have momentum going and though this is going to be a hard fought game, do not count the
Pittsburgh Steelers out.
One of the most prolific offenses recently in the NFL will take the field indoors in Indianapolis Sunday for a
divisional playoff game. The Colts also plan to be there. The Pittsburgh Steelers carry a reputation into their
second playoff game Sunday as a conservative team that relies on its ground game, ball control and a
stifling defense. But they've added another dimension to their resume over the final third of the season. Scoring points!
Indy has never been known as a defensive juggernaut. In fact, this is probably the best defensive year they have ever had.
The Steelers defense has been a bit soft, so yes, look for a shootout and I will go with 38-31 Pittsburgh
Steelers. Yes, I will eat crow if I am wrong.
