Condolences from a Steelers Fan
Today was a very sad day in sports and in particular the NFL. Tony Dungy, head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, laid his son to rest. As a sports fan irregardless of alligence our thoughts and prayers go out to the Dungy Family in this very sad time. May God guide and protect you and somehow help you make sense of this tradegy.

To be or not to be undefetated, that is the question.
Most of you probably realize that the Indianapolis Colts were defeated for the first time this National Football League Season. The Colts were defeated by the SanDiego Chargers in a close game that went down to the wire. Yes, I understand that on any given Sunday one team in the NFL can defeat another; but it was not a suprise that the Indianapolis Colts did not get that elusive perfect season. The last perfect season in the NFL was completed by the Miami Dolphins in 1972 I believe. The season was shorter back then; but the cool thing about that team was the fact that they somehow knew the momentous destiny they would achive by being perfect. The Indianapolis Colts, by stark contrast, openly spoke of benching starters and not really going for the perfect season. Maybe this is indicative of a team that thinks too much versus going on instinct and guts.......I guess we will see if the Indianapolis Colts win the ultimate prize of Superbowl Champions. The SanDiego Chargers, ironically enough, are battling it out with my Pittsburgh Steelers for the final playoff spot in the AFC. This got me thinking and hearkening back to yesteryear and the great Pittsburgh Steelers teams of the 1970's. Why didn't the Pittsburgh Steelers ever go undefeated? With the lineup they had, I can't believe they ever actually lost. But as with most great teams, perfection is elusive...........so it goes for the 1970's Pittsburgh Steelers. As was once told to me, great teams don't always win...... they just win when they HAVE TO. So take note, Colts fans, does your team have what it takes to win the big one? Let's hope so, because in the NFL we have the past and the Pittsburgh Steelers to show you how; and the present and the SanDiego Chargers as the reality check. What does the future hold? Check back here in February.

Penn State Football, am I onboard?
So Rob, you onboard? Joe
Growing up in Western Pennsylvania I was a diehard Pitt Panther fan and learned to develop a hatred if you will for the Blue and White know as the Penn State NittanyLions. Don't get me wrong, it was not real hate, but it did exist in the context of sport. The Panthers of the 70's and 80's with Dan Marino and Tony Dorsett versus the Nittany Lions who centered more on the anonimity of team play versus any real star player focus. So it is and so it was.........they frustrated us, we frustrated them. It's a shame we don't play anymore.........maybe someday.
Let's move forward to the early 90's and I receive my first away from home job and guess where I need to go? You got it, Happy Valley. For those layman out there, that would be State College Pennsylvania. Not sure if the loneliness, high stress job, empty apartment, or the roaring crowds on Saturday afternoons did it, but soon enough I was packing my bags on the way back to the burgh. Pittsburgh that is. Man, I think I really hate Penn State now, you could hear me utter. The place is even jinxed.
Flash forward to today, the old man Joe Paterno is growing on me. He is still there, and the kids this year sure played hard for Joe Pa. You know what sir, no hatred here, just respect, so go beat those Flordia State Gators in the Orange Bowl. But I still say...........go PITT!!!!
