HOLIDAY FRUITCAKE TRIVIA

The fruitcake has become one of the most ridiculed foods and the butt of many jokes.

Fruitcake is a heavy cake made of dried or candied fruits and nuts that are soaked in brandy or rum, often used in the celebration of weddings and Christmas.

The earliest recipe from ancient Rome lists pomegranate seeds, pine nuts, and raisins that were mixed into barley mash.

In the Middle Ages, honey, spices, and preserved fruits were added and the name fruitcake was first used.

Have you heard of the FRUITCAKE UNDERGROUND?

It may surprise you how many people number themselves among the Fruitcake Underground.

Here is a new twist on fruitcake....it reminds me of an old fashioned spice cake.

Pumpkin Fruitcake

"This pumpkin fruitcake is designed for those who eschew fruitcake in any form. It is tender, nutty and only vaguely scented with rum and spice. Parenthetically, it keeps wonderfully well -- if you can keep your hands off it. I cannot!"

NGREDIENTS

2 cup seedless raisins nutrients
1/4 cup plus 3 tbs dark rum
1 cup pitted dates, roughly chopped nutrients
3 1/2 cups flour
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup pureed cooked pumpkin (canned) nutrients
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 cup walnuts, chopped nutrients
finely slivered peel of 1 orange
finely slivered peel of 1 lemon
1/2 cup orange juice
Confectioners' sugar

HOWTO
Place raisins in bowl and add the 1/4 cup rum. Cover and let stand several hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 325F. Butter and flour a 9 cup bundt or tube pan (or 3 medium loaf pans). Set aside. Sprinkle the dates with 1 tbs of the flour. Set that aside.

Beat the butter in a large bowl of an electric mixer until light. Slowly beat in 2 cups of the sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Beat in the pumpkin, cinnamon and ginger.

Sift the remaining flour with the baking powder and salt. Combine the baking soda and buttermilk. Using a wooden spoon, stir the flour mixture into the pumpkin mixture in three parts, alternating with thirds of the buttermilk mixture. Stir in the reserved raisins and rum. Stir in the dates, walnuts, orange peel and lemon peel.

Spoon the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 1/4 hours. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes. Unmold.

Meanwhile, combine the remaining 1 cup sugar with the remaining 3 tbs rum and the orange juice. (I found it was easier to warm these ingredients over low heat while stirring, until the sugar was dissolved) Brush this over the cake until it is moist but not wet. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar before serving. Serves 8-10

HEALTHY HOLIDAY RECIPES

HEALTHY HOLIDAY RECIPIES

HEALTHY LIVING and HOLIDAY RECIPIES seems to be a paradox,
but that doesn't have to be the case. Some of our favorite holiday foods
actually contribute to healthy living.

Cranberries for instance. For over 60 years, Ocean Spray has been actively researching the cranberry
and their other products, to understand their role in maintaining good health. Early research determined
that compounds in cranberry, called proanthocyanidins or condensed tannins, prevent certain bacteria
from sticking to the urinary tract, If bacteria can’t stick, they cannot cause infection. This anti-stick
mechanism of cranberry is key to its urinary tract health benefits.

The cranberry is one of only a handful of major fruits native to North America. Others include the blueberry and Concord grape. Cranberry Fun Facts

Ocean Spray offers recipies that would compliment any holiday menu.
Here is one I particularly like:

1/8 teaspoon ginger

Back Pain Cured with Acupressure

I have had severe back pain many times during my adult life. Muscle relaxants and pain pills would usually take care of the problem is short order. A few years ago my back 'went out' again and no amount of drugs relieved the back pain. After a regime of x-rays and a MRI, I was advised that my only option was back surgery which I refused to consider. The diagnosis was herniated disks.
Quite by accident I met an acquaintance I hadn't seen for years. She told me about her excellent results from Acupressure Medical Massage. She had been in a wheelchair before this treatment.
I was certainly excited to think there might be relief without drugs or surgery.
Dr. Craig Hediger is the only Alaskan member of the International College of Applied Kinesiology.

Acupressure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago. It is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine which emphasizes preventing illness, dealing with underlying causes in depth and treating the whole person. An acupressurist works with the same points used in acupuncture – called acupoints - stimulating these healing sites with finger pressure, rather than inserting fine needles. Acupressure uses the power and sensitivity of human touch to eliminate stress, relieve pain and alleviate acute and chronic conditions. It can be effective in the relief of many complaints such as arthritis, headaches, neck and shoulder tension, back pain, sciatica, infertility, sinus and breathing problems. By stimulating the bodies natural curative abilities, it also works as a powerful preventative therapy and is a safe and effective complement to conventional healing methods.

Health Kinesiologyis a holistic complementary therapy that helps the body recover
from illness, allergies, stress etc by restoring energy balance.

It uses muscle testing to identify the problem areas: light pressure is applied to a muscle and the response is monitored. Once the stresses are identified, gentle techniques are used to bring the body back into harmony with itself.

No two sessions of treatment are the same, even for people with similar symptoms, because the person is treated as a unique individual. HK's truly holistic approach of addressing both physical and psychological issues makes it an especially powerful healing system, which is being recognized increasingly by members of the medical profession.
In a single session, the therapist may identify allergies, rectify nutritional imbalances, deal with phobias and psychological stress, rebalanced chakras and start the process of detoxifying the body from heavy metals, vaccinations, drugs etc.

Applied Kinesiology was developed in the 1960s by George Goodheart, a Detroit chiropractor. It is based on the concept that adverse changes in muscle function can occur as a consequence of a variety of internal triggers. These may include such obvious ones as injury, nerve entrapment, misalignment of the skeleton, or brain damage. According to AK theory, however, muscle weakness (or its opposite, excessive muscle spasm) can also be caused by diseased or dysfunctional internal organs, exposure to toxic substances, nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities, or emotional issues.

Using an extensive diagnostic procedure called manual muscle testing, the AK , Applied Kinesiology, practitioner can determine the internal source of muscle weakness and then plan a program designed to ultimately restore health. Because manual muscle testing is basically a diagnostic technique, the practitioner will usually also combine muscle testing with a thorough history, physical examination, and appropriate laboratory testing.

I have recommended this treatment to anyone I meet with a back pain. I was in such pain I could barely get to my appointment. After the first treatment, I was able to walk out with little pain. I had to do specific exercises, have bi-weekly treatments, and get rid of my high heels (big sacrifice!) but it wasn't long before my back was healed. No Surgery! No drugs! I'm well!

Speaking of Retirement, what do you think about this? A Retirement, Home for Chimps

land or jewels, but an inheritance of words: your life story.

Really a nice site that enables you to get started on that project. My sister and I have been compiling our history through pictures....boxes and boxes of them...that had been accumulating at our parent's home. Some go back to the 1800's.

With all that extra time, I'm sure alot of Babyboomers are looking for an INCOME OPPORTUNITY/

Retirement Plans, Then and Now

Volumes are being written about Babyboomers , Retirement Plans ,
Retirement Homes . Investments for Retirement.
It all seems so complicated and uncertain in these turbulent times.
My parents decided to retire in 1972. They sold the farm when interest was hovering around 20%.
They bought another 40 acres (land was cheap back then) and had a new retirement home built,
Dad paid cash for everything (he was a product of the Great Depression) So with money from selling the farm earning up to 20% interest and no debt, they had a very comfortable retirement .

My retirementt fund dwindled alarmingly when we had the big stock crash several years ago. In fact, a big part of my
investment portfolio disappeard right along with the tech stocks that went under.
New Retirement Plan: Have been investing time and money in learning how to earn on the internet and have finally struck gold!
Blackholeseries.com has a fabulous set of marketing tools, and training unavailable anywhere else.
