Lifes Necessities

The town where I live was without water for 12 hours the other day. It made me realize how much I had taken having fresh water on tap (so to speak) for granted. It was a challenge to clean my teeth, I couldn't shower before work, and worst of all NO COFFEE!!.

Without water everything else in life loses meaning

The Day You Start Dying

"The day you stop learning is the day you start dying" - Quote by a 92 year old Nobel Laureate in his acceptance speech.

I have had a couple of great days at work. I have been roped in to do some HTML programming and database backend work which I have not done for ages. I've been on a learning curve to come to grips with the new .Net IDE and classes within style sheets. The main point is that I am learning (or relearning) an old skill and I feel great.

I'm convinced that keeping an inquiring and open mind is the secret to longevity and lifelong mental agility.

Keep Well

From a Reader to a Writer

I have decided to become a writer (part time) once I finish my midlife BA in six months. Apparently one of the prerequisites to be a great writer is to be a great reader. I get fidgety if I go several hours without reading and I'm always getting into trouble from my dear wife about the mess of books around our house. At the moment I am reading the Collected short stories of Owen Marshall, a NZ writer. He is a master of the short story and his themes are very evocative and anchored in the mid twentieth century.

I trust you all are well.

Regards

Grant
