Literature and the Love of Lifepresented by Dr Kelp2006-01-26Socrates said"Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others have labored hard for." And then we need to add our piece to the puzzle. Collaborative learning over many millenia has brought us this far. We all need to do our bit. So why don't you get your own blog and start publishing - it's fun and you get to communicate with neat people. Until next time drkelp Posted at 08:56:12 PM | Post Comment | Read Comments (0) 2006-01-22Virginia Woolf -a plug for a geniusVirginia Woolf, is in my view the greatest woman writer in history. Her books shook the foundations of English Literature in the 1900-1940 period. There is a great Yahoo discussion group on Virginia Woolf. Why don't you pop in and have a look. drkelp http://groups.yahoo.com/group/virginiawoolfclub/ Posted at 10:50:07 PM | Post Comment | Read Comments (0) 2006-01-21Motorcycle ManiaHappy New Year and I apologise for my long time offline. I've been on holiday and taking a break from the Net. I picked up my new Honda Hornet CB900 2 days ago and have had a real blast riding it. This definitely comes on the "love of life" side of my blog. Brabara and IO went for a ride today to visit some friends who live about 50km away and then we took the long way home. Muchas fun. I found a new author over the btreak and have read 2 of her 3 books recently. Her name is Jean Pattrick and the books are 'Denniston Rose', 'Heart of Coal" and "Catching the Current". The stories are based on the West Coast coal town of Denniston in New Zealand in the years 1880 - 1967. Fantastic writing especially the interplay between the main characters. I knew nothing about coal mining before reading the books but now know a lot more - isn't that what good books do? Inform you. I highly recommend these 3 books. I'm also struggling my way through Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow". Heavy but it has its moments. Keep well and enjoy life drkelp http://www.angelfire.com/md/haematology Posted at 11:51:48 PM | Post Comment | Read Comments (0)
