Book Club

I have just got another three people to join me in forming a book club. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time. Having the opportunity to share what you have enjoyed with others and get their views as well will be awesome.

I had a foretaste in the 1980's when I was in a study group for a Greek History paper. The paper went for a year and the group was very lively and I learnt a lot from the others. I'm still incontact with some of that group now, though I have shifted cities twice since then.

have a great day and keep reading

Tuesdays with Morrie

I have just finished this inspirational book called "Tuesdays with Morrie". It tells of the end of a university professor's life and the last course he took on life with one of his former students. This is a must read for those grappling with lifes vagaries and difficulties. Has anyone else read this book?

Keep well

What the Dickens?

A quote from a speech of Charles Dickens the famous Victorian novelist:

"Though house and lands be never got, Learning can give what they can not"

What a great and true quote. The ability to read, learn and to enjoy it is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. House and lands are temporal and outward - the effect of reading is internal and lasting (maybe even eternal). It is a great shame to see some countries and cities making their libraries paid ones. The free public library has been a wonderful institution for those people who can not access formal education at a college or school. The best teachers from through the centuries are available in the libraries, through the books they wrote, and their thoughts still shine bright and clear today.

Have a great day
