Book Recommendation

I have just completed a funny book that has some great turns in the plot. It is called Jumping the Queue by Mary Wesley. Mary went on to write a number of outstanding novels including the Camomile Lawn one of my all time favorites.

Mary has a light and engaging writing style that packs a punch when you least expect it.

Keep well

Some new thoughts

Thought 1

Gives out positive comments to people at a ratio of at least 5 positive to 1 negative comment. Research has shown that this will boost your positivity and energy levels as well as empowering those around you.

Thought Two

If you have a good education use it in public to make thoughtful contributions in the civic space. Speak the truth as you see it, be reasonable and be prepared to stand up for your beliefs. This was brought to mind by listening to a series of podcasts on iTunes relating to the Scottish Enlightenment.

Ciao

Lesson of the Day

Try and keep a ratio of being positive to and negative against people at 5:1 or more. Research has found that this ratio is the magic one that fills you with energy and energises those around you. DK http://www.trker.com/go/6825

Spring at last

Here in the Southern hemisphere spring has arrived or sprung as some people would say. It is great to be able to get out walking again and swimming will only be weeks away. I realised when I was looking at my work calendar today that Xmas is not far away - eek.

My rest from study has energised me and it is so great to go to the library to get the booksI want to read, not those mandated by the lecturer.

I have also joined a program that has been around for ages - Adbux.  Its working well for me especially with the $10 Auto line for referrals (12-25 over 30 days). Have a look here : http://adbux.org/?r=drkelp

Enjoy Life

Books, books, books!

Those of you who have read this blog know that I am addicted to books. And I am. My day is made when I get the big Amazon smile or the Fishpond fish.  The Fishpond fish I hear you saying. Fishpond is a NZ based online seller of books, CDs and Videos. The advantage though is that the books are priced in NZ dollars not US dollars. That makes the books at least 30% cheaper before you even make any savings from the site.

Click the link below to explore

There $5 bargain pre-owned books cover a wide range...

have a good day and keep reading

Try this New Approach

I have seen a new program today and I've gone right through its 10 steps. It looks like something different. Its my pick of the week. You only have to surf 3 sites a day, and other members will read your sites. Click on the banner below to find out more details.

I don't recommend programs very often but I always like to encourage new approaches.

Kind Regards to all

Lifes like that

I was intrigued by a blog recently called The Very Boring Blog. It was boring, but what was most enlightening were the comments. People were following the blog whose entries include gems such as, "I lifted an object off the table with my hand and I then placed it back again". That in fact was one of the more riveting posts. Great replies such as, "Wow, I'd never thought of doing something like that" or " I can hardly wait to read your next post, the suspense is killing me".

Still I have to say that reading blogs is more interesting than viewing advertisments!!

Regards to all

School is out

My hare-brained scheme to get a BA in mid-life has got past the finishing post. I got my final grades back and I've passed and ready to graduate (again!).

I've decided that from now on I'm going to be an auto-didact instead and spend the tuition money on books (what else!).

I'm reading a great book called The Seven Daughters of Eve at the moment which is the story of mitochondrial DNA and how we are all linked back to one of 7 original progenitors. I've also got another book to read called Sabbath's Theater by Philip Roth. I have read good reviews about it.

I'm looking forward to having more free reading time.

Go well.

Langston Hughes

I have just discovered a wonderful American poet called Langston Hughes. I know that all the literati in the US will have heard of Hughes but down here is New Zealand he doesn't feature on our literary scene. I was listening to the podcast from http://www.poetryfoundation.org/ and they were reading some of Hughes poems. They then had a recording of him reading his own works. Awesome, what a voice, what touching poetry. I particularly enjoyed some words from "The Negro Speaks of Rivers"

I’ve known rivers:

I’ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow of human blood in human veins.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

This seemed very deep to me. It ties back into Hughes visit to Africa when he was a young man in the 30's.

Kind Regards

DK

Mellow Day

I'm just mellowing out here listening to a song of Aaron Nevilles called "Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue". He has the most fantastic voice. He came to NZ a couple of years ago and I went to see him - what an experience. I have also subscribed to an awesome podcast called "Coffee-Break" Spanish. You can get it from Podcast Alley. We don't have many Spanish speakers in NZ but one of my colleagues is Columbian so I get to practice.

Keep well
