Carol's Potato Dream soup

                                                                  Carol's potato Dream Soup

I call it my dream soup because it's so easy to make.

You will need 1 crock pot or slow cooker.
Potatoes, the amount will depend on how many you are planning to feed and what size cooker       you are planning to use.  My rule of thumb is 3  potatoes person.

Potatoes
1 medium onion
milk
water
2 large ham hocks
cheese (optional)
salt and pepper
Instant mashed potatoes

Peel and dice the potatoes, rinse and put in crockpot.   Chop onion and add to potatoes.   Add Ham hocks.
I mix half milk and half water, enough to cover the ingredients. Season to taste.  Set timer to low (7 - 8 hours)  If you need it sooner
you can set it to high.  (4 hours)  But on low the flavor cooks in better.

Once the potatoes are done  you can remove the ham  hocks and cut them up, removing the skin and fat.  Adding the meat back to the soup.   You can cut up the ham hocks before you add them and remove the skins and fat if you want to.  But that also takes away some of the flavor.
If some of the liquid had boiled away add milk (or water).   Then slowly mix the instant potatoes into the soup, adding just enough to thicken it to the consistancy you desire.   Now is when you would add the cheese, I use shredded cheddar and I just add about a good handful.  But you can add as much as you want.   Let it cook about 10 minutes more, stirring to make sure the cheese melts.  Shut if off and dig in.  One great thing is it also makes fantastic left overs, because it just gets better each time you warm it up.

Enjoy

Don't Give UP

   I give up!  I quit!  I can't do this anymore!  I don't wanna!

And the list could go on and on.  But they all say the same thing, you have given up on yourself!  You think you have given it your all and you just can't do it.  Well guess what you're wrong!!!!

Believe me I know the feeling well.  I am 58 years old, disabled and sometimes disgusted with ME.  A year ago I could do what ever I set out to do, but now my "body" seems to like to try and put limitations on me, and I don't like that.  I have thrown in the towel and just gave up many times in the past year but that only makes me feel worse. I've "tried" making money on the Internet and to a lot of well meaning people I have failed at that too.  To others I just didn't try THEIR methods or I just didn't follow THEIR directions and that is why I have failed.  Even my Dr. tells me if I would just try this or that I would feel better.  Well guess what I HAVE tried THIS and THAT, but it didn't work.  So all I was doing was slipping farther and farther into the I QUIT mode of life.

So I am going to tell you a secret that I finally figured out.  NOT EVERYONE IS A LIKE!!!!  It's that simple.  Before I go on let me tell you right now IN NO WAY am I telling you NOT to listen to your Doctor or completely ignore the advice or help of  others.  Always do what the Dr. says and at least try what others suggest.  I am not talking about medical procedures or medications or anything like that.

I will give you an example, which might help to clarify what I am saying;
My Dr. told me to go out and walk around the yard, or walk around the block, adding more distance each day.  My body says NO WAY  I can't do that.  I tried but I would lose my breath, my back and legs would start hurting so bad I had to set down.  I gave up trying.  Then one night we went to Walmart and I walked around the store for several minutes, of course I was pushing a buggy, but that doesn't give you much support.  But I noticed that my back and legs weren't bothering me that much and I wasn't having a bit of problem breathing.  So I started going to the Mall and just slowly walking around.

Before this realization finally hit me I was ready to just Give up and sit around the house feeling sorry for my self.  But instead I found a different way to still do what the Dr. said.  And you know what, now I can actually walk around my yard a little more.  But I'm not about to try the around the block, I live in the country and out blocks are lonnnnnnnnggggggggg. Now why didn't what the tell me to do work?  Because everyone is different!!!!  My "body" couldn't handle the rough and uneven ground.  But it could handle the smooth flat floors of the Mall to begin with, and once I built up my strength and confidence there it was willing to try and accomplish walking outside.

Working on line is just like this.  You may join a program that gives you all kinds of advice on how to make money on line and you spend hours and hours trying to do it just like they said.  But it doesn't work.  That doesn't mean their advice is Wrong or won't work for someone else just like they say it will, it just means it doesn't work for you.  WHY Because everyone is different!!!

So I just tried different ways. I had learn the basics from these programs and I put that knowledge to work.  I even joined other programs ( so of which weren't recommended by the first program)  You have to be willing to step out of the BOX that people want to put you in and try other things.  If they don't work, oh well there is always a Cancel link. Even when dealing in Life's problems there is a cancel link.  Where?  In the list you have made of goals you want to reach and how you are going to try and reach them.  Ok step one didn't work,  draw a line through it or Cancel it. And go on to step two.  Not all the steps you try will work.  Because YOU are Different!!!

God made us all Unique individuals.  Our minds are different, our bodies are different, our goals are different, our feelings are different.  We are all Different.  So sometimes it takes different ways to accomplish the goals in life we have set for our selves.

There is only ONE thing you have to remember. DON'T GIVE UP

When you feel that I can't do this  urge come on you. Don't give up, just step back. Play a game, read a book or just relax. For a few minutes or a few days whatever it takes.  Then go back and look at your goals, think about what you might not have tried.  Ask others how they would handle it, just because you listen doesn't mean you have to do it. But don't just ignore them either. Try it, play around with it, put it in a way that YOU can do it

BUT DON'T GIVE UP

Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds

One of the most beautiful and graceful of God's creations.

Hummingbirds are one of the most astonishing creatures to study. Their acrobatic flights and arial antics will keep you watching for hours.

There are many different kinds and colors in the world but only a small portion of them can be seen in the United States.
Only the migratory Ruby-throated Hummingbird breeds in eastern North America. The Black-chinned Hummingbird, its close relative and another migrant, is the most widespread and common species in the western United States and Canada.

Hummingbirds have been around for a long as man can remember.  The Aztec god Huitzilopochtli is often depicted as a hummingbird. The Nahuatl word huitzil (hummingbird) is an onomatopoeic word derived from the sounds of the hummingbird's wing-beats and zooming flight.

For more information on the hummingbird and tips on how to set up feeders or plant an hummingbird garden go to this website.

New Yorks Newest Family

2007-06-03

New Yorks winged family has babies.

Rochester N.Y. has 4 new additions to their Peregrine Falcon family.  4 females who are only a few weeks old. All are fat and healthy. They just had their "banding day" which is when the eyases (babies) are taken from the nest and banded then put back. They are also given names on this day.

Peregrine falcons were once on the endangered species list, due to pesticide usage through out the United States. Especially DDT.

In 1999, the U.S. government took the Peregrine Falcon off the endangered species list but will continue to monitor Peregrine populations. The Peregrine Falcon remains on the Endangered Species List of most states in the eastern United States.

http://rfalconcam.com/rfc-main/mainView.php

You can go to this url to see live pictures of the eyses,  each camera shot is updated every few minutes. You can also read about the Falcons history and how they came to be one of Rochester's "elite" families.

UPDATE:

THe fledglings have left the nest. It took almost 2 weeks for the babies to take flight. But all are well an soaring the skies.  Rmember to come back next year to see the newest New York family.

Encouragement

Traffic Exchanges & The Lottery

Almost all Traffic Exchanges are free to join and they take time to work them.  Which can become very tedious and tiring.   But they have great advantages.  Which makes it worth the time.

Now we’re going to put your brains to work, instead of your fingers.  You’ll have to rev up your imagination to be able to follow along. But that shouldn’t be hard; I know mine wonders often while I’m surfing.
I am going to show you how TE’s are a lot like the lottery.  With just a little make believe thrown in to show you how it works.
Let’s imagine that the state sends you a big envelope of lottery tickets every day for Free.  Each envelope contains at least 100 lottery tickets and all you have to do is scratch them off. Now at first you’re really excited, but after several days you start getting bored.  Especially when it seems like all you are finding is $0 tickets.  But you know that not all tickets are winners, and it is going to take time to find one.

Then one day you find a $1 ticket and you jump up and down for joy.  Finally you can take a break from all that tedious work. WRONG!! You have 1 winning ticket and you need a whole lot more to make it worth while, there’s always the $50 ticket and then the big winning ticket yet. So back to scratching!  As the days go by you find another $1 ticket, then another and another.  Then one day when you are once again getting bored with scratching you find the $50 one.

This really spurs you on, you can just feel that “big” one and you’re going to keep scratching till you find it.
As the days pass and you get more and more of those $1 tickets you begin to notice something else, your bank account is slowly growing.  And for each $1 ticket you get it goes up more.
By now you should be wondering what this all has to do with working the Traffic Exchanges.  Well that’s easy.
You have joined several Traffic Exchanges, you put in your url’s and you start surfing hour after hour (scratching off tickets). Then on day someone signs up or purchases something from your website. Boy are you excited, but you don’t stop.  You go on surfing for days and days.   And again someone signs up.
Then you really get lucky and you get the big $50 one ( 5 sign ups in a row).  And you’re all excited again.  Then you get an email telling you about the commissions you have earned, and you realize This really does work!
SO DON’T GIVE UP, or get discouraged because one day you too will get start getting those $1 tickets (sign ups).  And you’ll even get that  “big” eventually, even if it’s just one $1 ticket/signup at a time.

Click away surfers and imagine each website you see as a Free lottery ticket, the next one might be a winner.

Things to remember when you want to start your own business

Free Home Business

Have you ever stop to think about what those 3 words actually mean?  Free = cost nothing.   Home= ones place of abode, where you live.  Business= a place of employment.   What this is supposed to be saying is you can sit at home and make money, which will cost you nothing.  So many people actually try to take this literally and think all they have to do is put their name and of course a password on a little form and sit back with their feet up and wait for the money to start pouring in.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it will Never happen.  The first word is wrong to begin with.  It will cost you something, TIME!   It takes time to fill out the forms, it takes time to research all the different programs that are offered out there, and it will take time to build your business.  Home quits being the nice snug place when you are spending most of your TIME setting in front of the computer trying to get your business started. With all the “little” distractions that you never seemed to notice before.

And then we have the most misleading word or all Business.  If you are going to start any worthwhile business (place of employment) you are going to have to be willing to give that little (some times BIG) extra to do what it takes to Make that dreamed of money. Which means work!

Regardless of whether you are opening a store, a restaurant or an on line traffic exchange it takes work.  And lots of it! As in any worthwhile business you won’t see a profit for months, possibly years if you aren’t willing to give what it takes.  It will depend completely on you and just how dedicated you really are in making it work.  If you aren’t prepared to spend hours studying, learning, listening and reading, and then clicking on websites or placing ads on line or hanging fliers or sending out post cards then don’t even waste your time filling out those forms.

No matter who you sign up, with if you truly want to make a livable income it will cost you money at some point. If it’s a good reputable company you have signed on with, it won’t be a huge expense, you won’t be making your sponsor rich while you are just getting by.  But there is NO Business that you can start and make a living at that you won’t ever have to put money into.  That is impossible.

So before you jump in and fall for all these get rich quick schemes that are floating around the web, take a little time to actually research the company that catches your eye.                                                            If they claim to be a part of the Better Business Bureau then call them and see if this company is actually registered with them and do they have any major complaints.

Ask questions BEFORE you sign up. Any good solid based business will have a contact area on their website. Check to see if they offer you training and if so what kind.  Is the training and support also FREE.

Scan the website and see what kind of up grades they offer and how much are they and most importantly what do you get with this upgrade.  If all they offer is a bunch of books you can read to help you, forget it.  You can go to the library and get similar books, if not these ,for free.

Then sign up, but stay at the Free level for atleast 2 months, see what kind of support you have.  Is your sponsor or up line willing to answer your questions?  Do they offer a phone number or an Instant Messenger name where you can actually talk to someone?   How long does it take someone to answer your email?  IF you still feel comfortable with them, then start thinking about up grading.

But first check with your sponsor or other long term members about which upgrades you should take first. This way you won't be wasting your time or money jumping into something you're not ready for.

Always keep in mind these people also have a lot to do, and they don’t have the time to waste on someone who is only going to spend 30 minutes a day on the job. You need to be willing to take the TIME.

WD-40 The miracle product

Ouch I burned my finger, where's the WD-40? Yes I said WD-40. It soothes the burning sensation and helps to heal the skin with no scarring.  It cleans, shines, polishes and removes many stains.
I have encluded the best list of things this product does that I could find.
But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. And then see what other things you can find to do with it that isn't on the list.  Have fun.

   1) Protects silver from tarnishing.
   2) Removes road tar and grime from cars.
   3) Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.
   4) Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making it slippery.
   5) Keeps flies off cows.
   6) Restores and cleans chalkboards.
   7) Removes lipstick stains.
   8) Loosens stubborn zippers.
   9) Untangles jewelry chains.
   10) Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.
   11) Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.
   12) Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing.
   13) Removes tomato stains from clothing.
   14) Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.
   15) Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.
   16) Keeps scissors working smoothly.
   17) Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes
   18) It removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor! Use WD-40 for
those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm
   the
finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off.
   Just
remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks.
   19) Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed
   quickly! Use WD-40!
   20) Gives a children's play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.
   21) Lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on
   riding mowers.
   22) Rids kids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises.
   23) Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier
   to
   open.
   24) Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.
   25) Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well
   as vinyl bumpers.
   26) Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.
   27) Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.
   28) Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons, and bicycles for
   easy handling.
   29) Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running
   smoothly.
   30) Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.
   31) Removes splattered grease on stove.
   32) Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.
   33) Lubricates prosthetic limbs.
   34) Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).
   35) Removes all traces of duct tape.
   36) Folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve
   arthritis pain.
   37) Florida's favorite use is: "cleans and removes love bugs from
   grills
   and bumpers."
   38) The favorite use in the state of New York WD-40 protects the
   Statue
   of Liberty from the elements.
   39) WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you
will be catching the big one in no   time. Also, it's a lot cheaper
   than
the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. Keep in
mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are
   not allowed in some states.
   40) Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and
   stops the itch.
   41) WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark
   and
   wipe with a clean rag.
   42) Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed
   and
dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick
spots with WD-40 and re-wash. Presto! Lipstick is gone!
   43) If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the
moisture and allow the car to start.

   P. S. The basic ingredient is FISH OIL.

   P. P. S.   I keep a can of WD-40 in my kitchen cabinet over the stove.
It is good for oven burns or any other type of burn.  It takes the
burned feeling away and heals with NO scarring.

My Family

I have 5 dogs from age 7 to 15 years old.  And in the past 15 years I have come to realize one thing, dogs love you unconditionally.  They never complain or nag, unless you count barking at the door to go out or sitting at your side "crying" for a bite of what ever you are eating.  They always meet you at the door wagging their tails and full of joy because you are home.  If your sad they are right by your side giving you their shoulders to cry on, or just something warm to hug.  If you're sick they lay next to you to keep you warm and to guard over you and protect you while you are asleep.
They can be a bother at times, especially a puppy who likes to chew.  But just think slippers are cheaper to replace then repainting walls because your toddler wrote on them with crayons or ink or even worse magic markers. If they do a boo boo on the floor it's a lot easier to clean up then a bag of flour or a glass of sticky juice that some little "darling dropped.
They can bring your slippers when your feet are cold and keep them even warmer by sleeping on them. All they ever ask is to be fed, let out to potty and a loving pet once in a while.  So if you ever feel lonely or frightened, go to your nearest animal shelter and take home someone who is feeling just as lonely and frightened as you are.  Believe you won't regret it.
