Why Do I Need to Backup My Files?
Backup should be an essential part of your computing experience if you spend great amounts of time on your computer and/or use your computer for important personal or business dealings.
Because of the many ways that spyware and viruses can take over your computer it is very important to backup all of your files and data.
There are many ways to perform a backup of your data such as using [backup software] which is available almost anywhere on the [Internet]. You can also place it in a zip file and encrypt it so that only you can get to it.
I backup my files and data on a regular basis by putting that information on a cd and I store it in a safe place.
What do you need to backup?
- website updates
- traffic exchange information
- downloaded software
- program information
You need to also backup your website that is sitting on a server that hosts you website. You ask why is this important and why do I have to do it.
Well, if the server where your site is happens to go down and they loose everything, your site is no longer available until the server comes back. If you have performed a backup of your complete website on the server, you will be ready to upload it back to the server. You have spent many hours getting your website so that you can promote your product or service. Would you want to start again from scratch?
So, backup, backup, backup and backup some more.
Most importantly, no matter what method you use, store your backup in a safe place where it is readily available when you need it.
How many of you use a safe desposit box to store all of your valuables (jewelry, last will and testament, important documents, etc.)? Why don't you do the same with your files and data on your computer?
We are sometimes oblivious of the deviation and theft of personnal information that we don't think that it can happen to us. Spyware and viruses are the means of some to steal our identity by putting things on our computer for that purpose. It is done without our knowledge.
You say how can this happen. If you have ever downloaded anything to your computer from the Internet you are at risk. If you spend any amount of time on the Internet you will sometime find it necessary to completely reinstall your operating system because a virus or spyware wiped out your hard drive.
Are you ready for the inevitable?
