Hacker or cracker?

In the Linux and Open Source communities, the title hacker is a term of respect.  A hacker is a person of great skill and arcane knowledge who can bend computers to his will and make them do clever things undreamt of by their designers.  In mainstream culture, a hacker is an evil villain who uses his technical prowess to steal or vanalize things.  The hackers are rather annoyed by this misuse of a noble word and have suggested using cracker to describe  a malicious person who breaks into computers.  But, alas, the mainstream definition has become too firmly entrenched.

Billy Davies 2.0 will highlight achievements by hackers, in the original sense.
