You can't go back to find things as they were

Some time ago I took my new wife to visit some places I had lived as a boy. WOW, things were completely different. One of the places was unlike anythingI had remembered. The road by where I had lived stopped only a few feet beyond where the Old Four Room School House had been, in which I had lived. I sould not even see the Old place. there were a bunch of little houses scattered through out the area which had been MY yard.

The worst thing was that I could not take my wife down the road to show her my favorite place to play. It had been an old military gun battery right along the Oregon coast. How ever I did find a road near the enterance to the "fort" which did lead to an old gun battery, but it waqs not the same one that I had played in as a child. This gun battery was now a tourist attraction along with a bunch of other things from the era as well as the area. So we visited the establishment there and I found out some things that were completely unknown to me before about the atrea. DID YOU KNOW that during World War II that the coast of Oregon had actually been fired upon???? I sure didn't. It was never mentioned in history class either. WOW, what a shook that was.

That's certainly an interesting piece of history I was not aware of! It's probably best that you didn't know it at the time.

Yes, the old saying "You can never go back" comes to mind. Our past is best left to memories, that picture in our heads is usually much more pleasant.

Sadly, it's true. You can't go back. My Sister went to where we grew up and told me it's all paved roads now. I didn't even want to see it. Our two room 8 grade school had been torn down a long time ago along with a 'ring of trees' beyond the baseball field where we went during recess to play. It was sad.

All we can do is hold our memories in our heart and dream of yesteryear.

I did however, go to the Church we used to go to, it hasn't changed at all except for it has a gravel parking area now instead of dirt and grass. I sent two years ago to get baptized. It was great seeing that little church again where we used to go to for Christmas prayers and stockings filled with candy and a gift! Oh, the days....
