Violence on TV

I continually hear it said that the violence on TV or even on the big screen has nothing to do with the great increase in violence perpetrated upon our society more and more every day. WHAT A JOKE!!! The morals of this society have diminished as the morality of TV and Movies continues to decrease. When young children are allowed to watch the totally unnecessary violence because it is easier to let them watch it than to find something more appropriate for them to watch, or better yet, something for them to do rather than watch anything at all.

I can remember when the profanity that is commonplace on regular network TV was only heard at the movies. Not any more. now it is OK to use words on TV that were not allowed years ago. WHY???? Don't censor me or I will cry, yea, right. What ever happened to common sense. When our youth hear profanity continually on TV, they assume it is OK to use it. Isn't and it never was. Since the vocabulary of our youth is so greatly affected by the vocabulary they are exposed to on TV, why would anyone believe that it is any different with violence. DUH.

I think you've got it backwards. I think it's a large part of our society that's decaying into profanities and violence as entertainment (or maybe it was always there? people used to crowd around executions instead of TVs...). Who makes videos? Who makes TV shows? Who makes swear words? People do. They don't make us. The reason that TV is getting more violent and profain is because we are, and we want our shows to be a reflection of some part of us. That's what I think ;)

Hmm, interesting theory, Zoe.

Yes, unfortunately, as you have pointed out, profanity and violence has always existed and certain members of society do participate actively in the offenses, in varying degrees.

The difference Bear points out is that the execution-style entertainment is now brought into our homes through television, as it never was before.

It's fairly common knowledge that repeated exposure to anything tends to give it much less shock value, making it more acceptable to us.

Clearly, society is simply becoming much more accepting of the "decay".

Some of choose not to accept it so easily.~
