Elvis Presley - 'The King' would be 71 today January 8,2006

Listening to a Radio Blues Show last night around midnight, I realized they were dedicating the show to Elvis Presley's birthday.  They were playing a lot of the original blues singers and songs that Elvis made famous with his Rockabilly style. WOW! Hard to believe Elvis was born 71 years ago today, I guess would take a stretch of the imagination to visualize anyone 71 years old on stage performing Elvis' trademark gyrations. Elvis left the building a little over 28 years ago but his momentum lives on.  I suppose it would be safe to say those lined up and invested in the Elvis Persona have made more revenue from the  'after Elvis' Culture than was generated by all of his records, movies and concerts while he was live. Maybe I'm callous, or just not overly sensitive to musicians, but I never could understand those that faint, roll in the aisles, or, tear off their clothes at a concert.  I always felt these types were running a bit short of a full tank. I guess the big benefit to the Elvis Legacy that lives on, the real live Elvis, is not able to rock their world with any of his off the wall public displays of being human.  Elvis has evolved into the perfect player.  Elvis can do no wrong. I still enjoy your music Elvis, sorry I was never one to become overrun with emotion listening to Rock & Roll. Happy Birthday Elvis, were ever you are . . .?
