KOREA The Cities & The Countryside
When I first arrived in Korea, it felt like the sun rose in the West and set in the East. I seemed to be all mixed up in my directions. There are several large and high hills (the Koreans call them mountains) in the cities. There are always Buddhist Temples on the mountains or hills. After about a week's stay in Seoul, we were sent to Daegu (Taegu, as some spell it). There is a very famous mountain in Daegu-Palgo Mountain. Near one of the Temples at Palgo Mountain, is a very tall statue of Buddha-the Koreans call it the Reunification Buddha. There is also a gondola that goes close to the top of the mountain. I have been there 3 times-Some Koreans took us there, then later, the spring of 2003, we took 2 of our sons there when our middle son came to visit., then that fall I took my niece up there. I brought her back with me when I came back from Canada.
