Hi. My name is Glenda Schloff. I live in beautiful Coos Bay on the coast of southern Oregon.
Our 5th Wheel

At the age of 48 I taught myself how to use the computer (took to it like a duck to water! :>) )... and now, a few years later I consider myself fairly knowledgeable. Always learning though, it's neverending.

I have two dogs, a SmoothCoat Chow Chow and a Pekingnese, both rescued. They're my babies.

I had tropical fish tanks before moving into a 37 foot fifth wheel to live. I miss them, but sure don't miss cleaning their tanks, ha!
I love to read, and research. I'm an avid book collector of varied subjects. I'm also an eclectic collector of all kinds of things. Love garage sales and 'really' love BOGO sales! LOL!

I love to crochet and want to do arts and crafts and learn how to make wire jewelry, my own planters and birdbaths. I love gardening too.

I have a guitar and a 5 string banjo, but don't know how to play either one of them. sigh...someday.......

I'm married 20 years this July to a great guy who is a Boom Truck Operator for a RailRoad Bridge Repair Crew who travels all over the United States. My goal is to earn enough money from my internet business to bring him home off the road. I am determined that that will be this year!

Blogging, Linking & Marketing

2006-02-24 @ 01:10:51 AM

I just attended a conference where we discussed "how" to create our blog, linking in our blog, and marketing in our blog.

There are differing opinions as to how we should create our blogging, linking and marketing in our blogs.

One person says we should "theme" our blogs and another says it's ok to write about different topics and still market other programs even if they aren't related to what you have written in your blog.  I agree with this opinion.

If you are going to write about sports for instance, I won't be visiting your blog. That just isn't my cup of tea.  On the other hand, if you write about sports one day and tell a funny story the next day or write about something completely different the next, then I might visit  to see what you have written that day and because I like your style of writing.

I think blogging can be a lot of fun, and it is a great avenue for business, but I disagree with those that suggest we have to or should "theme" our blogs.   It would get very boring and tedious to write about the same thing day in and day out. For me anyway.  I know there are some that can do that and that's great.  But I cannot. Well, I shouldn't say I cannot, because I "could".  But I choose not to.

I want to have the freedom to write about anything I choose, whether it's VoIP one day or Visitor Exchanges another day, Politics the next or WildLife Gifts the next.   That is the reason I named my eZine Glenda's Potpourri.  Potpourri is a "mixture" of  different types.

I want you to visit my blog because you like my style of writing and are curious about what I've written today.

Do you think you'd get more visitors by writing about whatever strikes your fancy each day? Or using a theme?  Maybe I'm wrong, I'm no expert, this is just my opinion.

I'm interested in reading  yours.  :~)

Hi Glenda,
I come to your blog for the exact reason you stated.
Good writing and some funny stuff sometimes.

Themes are good if you want to attract a niched or special interest type audience.

My blog is geered towards optimization for search engines, thus it is for those looking for my business services.

I think it just depends on what you want to do with your blog. Keywords is what you should worry about whether you go with a theme or not. Try to mention the same keywords throughout your post. Such as "potpourri" or your son being in the Air Force, when you talk about him just us "Air Force" throughout the post. Bold the keywords and cross link to previous posts in which you talk about your son or the Air Force.

Dont change your style, just home in on the keywords.
Looking forward to future posts.

Thanks Joe. I'm glad you enjoy my blog even though I do not consider myself a writer, I struggle with that. I really appreciate your compliments to me. That encourages me, haha. Also, thanks for your suggestions.

On the 'theme' business, I know I could get another blog and theme it and keep this one as a personal blog but I have so much on my plate now that it's just not feasible right now.

I just have never understood why it's considered wrong to write about varied subjects and advertise your wares at the same time in just 'one' blog.

Personally I think it's more fun that way. :) I guess I'm a bit of a rebel huh? (and I really am! lol)
