Hi. My name is Glenda Schloff. I live in beautiful Coos Bay on the coast of southern Oregon.
Our 5th Wheel

At the age of 48 I taught myself how to use the computer (took to it like a duck to water! :>) )... and now, a few years later I consider myself fairly knowledgeable. Always learning though, it's neverending.

I have two dogs, a SmoothCoat Chow Chow and a Pekingnese, both rescued. They're my babies.

I had tropical fish tanks before moving into a 37 foot fifth wheel to live. I miss them, but sure don't miss cleaning their tanks, ha!
I love to read, and research. I'm an avid book collector of varied subjects. I'm also an eclectic collector of all kinds of things. Love garage sales and 'really' love BOGO sales! LOL!

I love to crochet and want to do arts and crafts and learn how to make wire jewelry, my own planters and birdbaths. I love gardening too.

I have a guitar and a 5 string banjo, but don't know how to play either one of them. sigh...someday.......

I'm married 20 years this July to a great guy who is a Boom Truck Operator for a RailRoad Bridge Repair Crew who travels all over the United States. My goal is to earn enough money from my internet business to bring him home off the road. I am determined that that will be this year!

Well, Blow Me Over With A Feather!

2005-11-28 @ 09:55:28 PM

You could've knocked me over with a feather!

Want to take a wild guess as to who I heard from today?  You get 3 chances and the first two don't count!

Yep...Hewlett Packard called me today.  The woman I spoke with had a copy of the report I sent to the Better Business Bureau.  She said that Hewlett Packard would like to send my daughter a packing box and a shipping label for her to send her computer back to be repaired at no cost to her or me.

Wow!  At last, we get some satisfaction.  It only took two months!  Now I wonder how long it will take to get the packing box, send it back, get it repaired and sent back to my daughter.

But, can you believe it?  Finally some customer service!  It's too bad I had to file a report with the BBB to get it done when it should have been taken care of right away with a smile!  It would have saved a lot of anguish and frustration for me and my daughter.

I guess it pays to be persistent

Zapped?

2005-11-24 @ 11:57:39 PM

I have been having troubles with my computer mouse lately. I have the one that came with my computer, but it won't let me change the button assignments. I'm a lefty so I need them switched.

Yesterday, I bought a new Logitech Cordless Click! mouse. I used it all last night and most of this morning and then all of a sudden, I got zapped! It felt like a really sharp stabbing "zzzzzzttttt!" Whatever "it" was, entered through my upper chest and exited through my upper stomach area. Welts came up and you could see a tiny entrance and exit hole in these welts! It really hurts. And it itches. Have you ever had something like this happen?

Can a computer mouse do that to a person? I have a APC surge protector between my computer and the wall outlet, so I'm not too worried that it could have been that. I'm puzzled.

I did a bit of research and found a mouse that I think I'm really going to like. It's cordless, comes with its own mousepad, (which is corded) and it takes NO batteries!! That will sure save some money! And best of all, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It's very reasonably priced. I love not getting gouged!

So Much For Being Loyal...

2005-11-17 @ 12:56:18 AM

So Much For Being Loyal!

I'd like to share a letter I wrote to our local news station:

~~~~~~~
Hi,
Maybe you can help me...
May 17 of 2004, I put a computer on layaway at Walmart for my
daughter for Christmas. I picked it up the first week of September of 2004.
I kept it here unopened in the shipping carton until Thanksgiving
of 2004. We decided to take it up to her then and give it to her
early.
She opened it, I believe on the 24th, 25th or 26th of November,
2004 and registered Windows XP that same day.
About 4-6 weeks ago she went to turn her computer on (that she
seldom used) and the CPU would get so far into bringing Windows
up and then it would just shut off. This happened over and over.
This is a Hewlett Packard Compaq Presario.
So my daughter called Compaq and they tried helping her over the
telephone to no avail. Then she called HP and they said: Well,
the warranty is no longer valid so we can't help you. Neither of
us could believe it since the computer had not even been unpacked
until November and WindowsXP was not registered with Microsoft
until then also.
So I called and emailed HP about this. A Don or Dan from
Corporate Headquarters called me yesterday, November 15,
2005 and informed me that the warranty began the day I put it
in layaway
at Walmart.
I couldn't believe my ears. I told him that I thought that was
ridiculous and extremely unfair since I had bought it in May, and
my daughter didn't even see the computer until November.
We are not rich and I can't afford to buy her another one and she
certainly can't afford to get herself one either. She has
Fibromyalgia, Osteochrondritis, extremely high blood pressure
and is under tremendous stress. She cannot work outside of her home
anymore, her doctors have told her that. So she needs a computer
to learn how to earn money from home.
I asked Hewlett Packard to have some compassion and empathy and
to please make an exception to their policies, but they refused.
So I'm letting KEZI know about this and will be sending this on to some
newspapers, to the Attorney General of Oregon, and I'm going to write
about this on my blog at Blog Estates
I'm reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and to Rip-OffReport.
I want everyone to know how shabbily HP treats their loyal customers.
I have bought all my printers and scanners from them over the years, but
no more. What ever happened to making your customer happy? I guess
HP just doesn't care about their customers anymore.
I'm really upset about this and feel I've been ripped off. I might as well have
just taken $500.00 and thrown it down the commode.
Is there some consumer program out there that can get them to fix or replace
my daughters computer? I don't know where to turn to for help.
Flu & Pneumonia, Windy Weather, Grateful...
2005-11-05 @ 05:01:28 PM
I try to get a flu shot every year and have never gotten sick from them.
I got my flu and pneumonia shots yesterday and today I feel kind of blah and like I'm coming down with a cold. I only hope it's from the shots.
The weather here today is just horrendous. High winds and pouring rain. I need to go to the store, but....I don't think so, lol.
Only 50 shopping days left until Christmas!
Some of the wind gusts we are getting are scary. They are worse when you live in an RV. Wind storms have always scared me. I read not too long ago that all it takes is winds of 74 mph to knock over an RV. We are getting 60 mph gusts today. Yipes!
I am VERY grateful that we have a roof over our heads, food heat and electricity. Also that we have a large deck with a roof added on. If the winds are going to blow us over, it will push us into the deck, so we should be ok. But, it's still scary when the big gusts rock the RV!! According to WeatherBug it's only supposed to last until around 6 pm PST. Let's hope so.
Brrrrrrr!! It is oh so cold today. I can't seem to get warm. The thermometer above
my computer shows 58 degrees, but it feels like 20. :~/ Brrrrrrr!!
I have to go this afternoon and get my flu and pneumonia shots. Not really looking
forward to that. I'll have both arms sore for a few days, haha.
Well, next holiday is Thanksgiving. I can't believe it. We have a lot to be
thankful for this year. At least I do anyway.
Where is the time going? It's just whizzing by me it seems. Like an automobile
on the Autobon. I get up each day, do my morning routine, sit down at my
computer to begin work and the next thing I know, it's dark outside!
I'm already looking forward to receiving my gardening and seed catalogs for
next year! LOL. Dream, Dream, Dream.
I have learned that I had the wrong type of tomato for this area last summer.
I received a great book in the mail and learned that fact and which kind
is right for my area. So next year, I'm going to start some plants indoors earlier
than I did last year. Plus, I'll put them in a different spot so they'll get more of
the sun during the day.
I'd better get a move on. More later... Did I say Brrrrrrrr? ::shivering::
Pet Peeve!
2005-11-02 @ 02:52:57 AM
I surf traffic exchanges. Alot.
Recently I decided I would listen to an audio book while surfing.
I had to turn the volume up in order to hear it while surfing.
Here's my giant PET PEEVE:
It is so irritating when I get to certain sites and have my ears assaulted by someone speaking very loudly about their business or product (especially when you see that site a hundred times in one day). Not to mention the sites that play music! I've almost had several heart attacks by now.
Rat Tapping Foot
It would really be nice and considerate if traffic exchange owners would make the members that submit sites to them put "on/off" buttons in a prominent place at the top of the page and give surfers the OPTION of listening or not.
If I am interested in a site, I open it in a new window and save it for when I'm finished surfing, then I can take my time looking at that site. If I want to listen to the recording then, I will.
I'm seriously thinking of closing my accounts with traffic exchanges that allow members to start their recordings when I land on their page.
One time I had my headphones on and about had my ear drums broken, not to mention it scared the beejeebies out of me!
So please traffic exchange owners, hear my pet peeve! I'm sure I'm not the only surfer out here that feels this way.~
