Hi. My name is Glenda Schloff. I live in beautiful Coos Bay on the coast of southern Oregon.
Our 5th Wheel

At the age of 48 I taught myself how to use the computer (took to it like a duck to water! :>) )... and now, a few years later I consider myself fairly knowledgeable. Always learning though, it's neverending.

I have two dogs, a SmoothCoat Chow Chow and a Pekingnese, both rescued. They're my babies.

I had tropical fish tanks before moving into a 37 foot fifth wheel to live. I miss them, but sure don't miss cleaning their tanks, ha!
I love to read, and research. I'm an avid book collector of varied subjects. I'm also an eclectic collector of all kinds of things. Love garage sales and 'really' love BOGO sales! LOL!

I love to crochet and want to do arts and crafts and learn how to make wire jewelry, my own planters and birdbaths. I love gardening too.

I have a guitar and a 5 string banjo, but don't know how to play either one of them. sigh...someday.......

I'm married 20 years this July to a great guy who is a Boom Truck Operator for a RailRoad Bridge Repair Crew who travels all over the United States. My goal is to earn enough money from my internet business to bring him home off the road. I am determined that that will be this year!

Bears Nose

2005-07-31 @ 12:50:27 AM

After doing considerable research, I believe Bear has Discoid Lupus.  This disease is an immune mediated skin disease that is probably related to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (say that 10 times fast!) It primarily affects the nose and face. Go here to read the full explanation.

I sent for Natural Canine's Advanced Discoid Lupus Support Kit and now I'll be giving Bear a home cooked diet of chicken, brown rice and carrots.  Plus vitamins and flax oil mixed in and then for a few weeks I put ointment on his nose and give him pills.  Hope I can get him to eat it.

I've asked them if I will be feeding this diet for the rest of his life because I'm already feeding him natural dry food and a very good moist canned food.  So we'll see.  I'll keep you posted.

They say to keep him out of the sun during peak hours, and boy is that hard to do.  I feel like I'm punishing him making him stay on the deck and shutting the doors so he can't stick his nose in the sun.  I'm sure he thinks I'm punishing him too.  I feel so bad.  But...I have to use tough love I guess.

WE, the People of the United States of America, finding ourselves repeatedly misled by those charged with the care and governance of our nation, know that partisan politics have resulted in a serious breach of the public trust.

WE have suffered attacks against our Constitutional rights and the founding tenets of this Democratic Republic.
WE have suffered the infringement of our freedoms.
WE have suffered insult to our honor and integrity as proud citizens.
WE will no longer suffer in silence this continued assault that has now passed beyond intolerable.
WE do hereby now and forever reject the bastardization of this nation's core principles through this proclamation, and define this reminder to our wayward leaders just what it takes to be a True US Patriot: read more:

Holocaust Survivor Says

He's Leaving The US

by Joey Picador

So I heard the moving van pull up this morning. When I got home this evening I happened to spy my neighbor (he's like 85 years old - I don't know exactly, but he's old, talks and moves very slowly) standing on the sidewalk next to the van. I walked over and shook his hand, and we started talking. I asked him where he was moving, and he said, "Back to Germany." http://www.justicefornone.com/handbills/leaving1.htm

EarthSeals Man Paul Hoffman – by Hollis Polk

Noticing that his thoughts constantly reminded him of all that had gone wrong in his life, and of all the respect that he wasn’t getting, Paul decided: “If I want respect, I need to give respect. If I want honor, I need to give honor. If I want wealth, I need to give wealth... I need to give to this world, instead of just sitting back and continuing to complain about why there is not enough honor, respect, wealth, or love in the world!” http://www.gcforall.org/inspiringstories0304#intentionsfred

A Near Death Awakening—Mellen-Thomas Benedict

THE ROAD TO DEATH

I woke up about 4:30 am and I knew that this was it. I was going to die. I called a few friends and said good-bye. I woke up Anne and made her promise that my dead body would remain undisturbed for six hours, since I had read that all kinds of interesting things happen when you die. I went back to sleep. The next thing I remember, I was fully aware and standing up. Yet my body was lying in the bed. I seemed to be surrounded by darkness, yet I could see every room in the house, and the roof, and even under the house. http://www.gcforall.org/inspiringstories0404

You'll find a lot of shocking, in  your face 'make you think' stories.  There are also inspirational stories,  coverup stories...

Enjoy....

Once Again....

2005-07-22 @ 03:50:43 PM

This is to all women everywhere (sorry guys).

cc image This morning, I went to one of our credit card sites to pay our bill.

For some reason the site kept telling me that my login information was not correct. I thought: this is weird, since I'm the one that set it up.

I tried several times, to no avail. So I called them. We went through all the security questions, then they asked how they could help. So I told them, she then informed me that since I was not the "primary" card holder that she couldn't talk to me without "permission" from my husband or unless I mailed them a notarized Power Of Attorney.

This just makes my blood boil! I am so very tired of being treated like a second class citizen that has to jump through many hoops in order to accomplish something financial or otherwise because: I'm a "woman" and I'm "married" (therefore 2nd in line) and I don't count.

I think that since I'm the one that applied for and got the credit card and am on the account as a card holder and set up the online payment option, that I should be able to access the account and should be able to talk about the account with anyone at the financial institution.

After all, I am the one that pays the bills in our family. My husband isn't interested in the paperwork involved, so I am elected.

Banks and credit card companies or any other financial institutions for that matter, need to rework their policies. I can't tell you how many times over the years this has happened but I for one am "up to here" with being treated this way. I'm fed up being treated like I don't count. Like I am a second class citizen.

We are EQUAL as human beings, we do not walk BEHIND, we walk NEXT to! We deserve to be treated as such.

My 2 Centz......

I also wrote them a letter about this and respectfully asked that since the above occurred and I could not make my payment online, that I not be charged a late fee.

Let me know if anything like this has happened to you and how you feel about it.

Our Freedoms

2005-07-20 @ 12:44:24 AM

Our Freedoms

eagle More and more of our freedoms are being taken away from us. I've been reading articles at gweiss' blog and so far, I agree with everything she has said. Click on the link below and see for yourself.  http://www.blogestates.com/blog/gweiss/2005/07

I couldn't believe what I read about income taxes! It's fascinating and maddening at the same time. I highly commend those that are fighting for our rights. I am going to sign the petition and I hope you will too, be sure to tell your family and friends!

Some of what you read at Gina's blog will make your blood boil at what "they" are doing to us. It sure will open your eyes. I hope what you read will entice you enough to get involved. If we all stand up as a TEAM things CAN and WILL change.

dollar sign You know, all combined, the taxes taken from my husbands checks each week is getting close to almost HALF!! It really makes me angry. He works extremely hard to earn his money. Most times it's 12 hours a day, 6 days a week repairing railroad bridges. It's not an easy job. Do you know what J. O. B. stands for? "Just Over Broke" . Besides taxes, we pay a good portion of our medical insurance premium too. My husband makes a decent wage. Twenty years ago we would have been considered 'well-to-do'. But in today's world, with everything so expensive, well, it's just not so easy. Twenty years ago, we would have been able to help others less fortunate on my husbands salary. Today, it's extremely hard to help others monetarily. I do what I can but.....

crab We bought a 37' fifth-wheel RV that we owe nothing on. I moved to Coos Bay to a mobile and RV park because my husband had a year long job here. Since I love the ocean and it's cooler here I decided to stay here. After living here for a year and a half now, I don't think we'll ever live in a house again (unless we win the lottery, LOL). Granted, there isn't a lot of room with a large dog and a small dog, but I'm dealing.. When hubby is home, it's even more crowded but we manage. But, here, we pay about 2/3rds less than we were before. Our utilities, garbage, sewer, and water are included. We also get basic extended cable. We're also very lucky we have wonderful park owners. They've allowed us to build a fence for the dogs. We actually have about a space and a half so we have a small yard for the dogs. We've built a covered, screened in deck that allows us privacy and we put pavers all over the yard. So no grass to mow. :) If we move, we have to get this space back to the way it was before we moved in. By living here, we have a chance to get our debts paid off a lot faster and save for retirement.

I think that more and more families will choose this way to live because it's a lot less expensive. So much for the "American Dream" huh?

I know that with what is going on in the world that we are extremely privileged to live in America. But as I said in the beginning, more and more of our 'freedoms' are being taken away. ALL of us need to stand up and say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH".

Until next time....I wish you Health, Happiness & Prosperity.

Support Our Troops

Hmmm, Is It or Isn't It? We'll See...

2005-07-17 @ 07:18:46 PM

I was going to write about a potential scam today but further research is needed. I'll let you know when I know. Stay tuned...

Bastindorf Beach OR

It's a gorgeous day today! I'd love to sneak off and take the dogs to the beach, but, I'd better stay here and work. This photo is from a couple of days ago when we went for a couple of hours. Beautiful huh?

I havsick tomato plante a couple of questions maybe someone here in Blog Estates can help me with. I'm a novice gardener and my tomato plants looked fine a week ago, but now the leaves are yellow and the plant looks sickly. Am I watering too much or not enough? Should I feed it again or what? Everything else I've planted is doing pretty good, just not the tomatoes. I picked my first artichoke yesterday, can't wait to eat it!

Okay, 2nd problem: Bear's nose is turning pink. At first, I thought he had scraped it on the fence because it started out like a small gouge. Then it started becoming pink all across the top of his nose and inside his nostrils. I took him to one Vet and she said she didn't know what it was. Gave me some cream but it seemed to make it worse. I tried using the highest SPF baby suntan lotion but it doesn't seem to help much.

BearsNoseI took him to a second Vet and he said that although it is rare in Chows, he is allergic to the sun and that it would probably heal and get black again in the winter time. And of course Bear has to lay in the doorway on the side of the deck where the hot sun hits in the afternoon.

I've started using a combination of the sunscreen and Bag Baum but it's just not healing. Any suggestions? I asked an online Vet and she thinks I should take Bear to a Vet that specializes in dermatology for animals so that a biopsy can be taken, and that is an option but thought I'd ask the Blog Estates community for any suggestions first. Any help would be appreciated.

Guess that's it for today, I'm going to get my surfing done for the day and enjoy the sunshine til it gets dark. Have a great day! :)

Trek=Part 3= Coming Home

2005-07-14 @ 11:27:40 PM

The trip home was beautiful. It was a gorgeous day. I've never driven that far or for that long all by myself. I enjoyed it. Had I more time and money, I would have stopped in some of the shops along the coast on my way home. There was one place in Florence, Oregon that had the cutest items. I'd like to go back there.

Well, when I got home, got everything unpacked and rested for a couple of days, I got on my computer intending to get some work done.

I tried restarting Windows, and.....nothing. I got a black screen with a row of vertical white lines across the bottom of my screen. Needless to say, I panicked. I tried everything I could think of and nothing worked to bring Windows back up. I finally got my diagnostics CD to work and tested my hard drive. The result? Failed.

So I called Dell. Within 4 days I had a new hard drive installed. They even gave me a bigger one than what I had. I had a 160 Gig hard drive, now I have 250. I also bought an external 300 Gig hard drive so I will (hopefully) never lose my data again.

The only thing that bothers me with Dell is that they will let you keep the old hard drive to get your old data off of it, but the technician told me that if it had been reformatted the hard drive was wiped clean and there wouldn't be any data on there. Also that I had to have it mailed to them within 10 days.

I did some research online and found out that you CAN retrieve all or 'most' of your data on the old drive even if it had been reformatted. I was just sick when I read that. Why didn't that technician know that? I really think that the next time I want a new computer, I am going to build it myself. He also told me that if I had Dell retrieve the data for me (had it not been reformatted) that it would cost about $400 + !! Unbelievable huh?

Well I made it home safe, that it the most important thing. Tomorrow I have a Red Alert for you, so stay tuned...........

Trek=Part 2 and Coming Home!

2005-07-13 @ 04:05:08 AM

While at my Mom's I went shopping at a discount store there and bought about $450 worth of merchandise and locked it up in my car in Mom's driveway, drove in to where my trunk was up against her garage. Well, all my windows but the windshield are dark and you can't see through them. Because of me parking it the way I did, you could see through the windshield from the street.

My car was burglarized that night and everything was taken. Even my car registration and insurance card! I was just sick. Mom's homeowners insurance told her that since I had car insurance, that they couldn't do anything. Well, my car insurance, come to find out does not cover "contents" of your car. Only the car itself. So I'm just SOL! That really irks me. Especially when I'm paying quite a bit each month for premiums for full coverage. I think I'm just going to lower our insurance to what our state says we "have to have" and leave it at that.

I get so irritated at paying out the ying yang for just everything and then when something happens and I need help or to be reimbursed, etc. "they" can't or won't help. It's extremely frustrating.

I've parked in that driveway many many times for over 20 years and never had anything stolen before. We've had Christmas gifts and our suitcases in the car for a few days while there and they were ok. Not anymore I guess. Lesson learned!

Christian

The high point of my "working visit" was I got to see my Great Grandson. He's 17 months old and is just as cute as can be! And just as curious! Non-stop "Whazz dat?" HAHA! He's just precious.
I hated leaving him. I won't get to see him again until Christmas and he'll be almost 2 then. He turns 2 on January 19. We all wish his hair would stay blonde, but it will turn dark brown eventually.

Well this ended up being longer than I had intended tonight, so I'll leave my trip home and what I found when I got home until tomorrow night.... tease....LOL. Sweet dreams everyone! g'night.

Trek To Mom's

2005-07-12 @ 02:20:25 AM

fireworks Well, I finally did it! I drove to my Mom's 5 hours away and just about half of the trip is on the freeway. I hate the freeway and had not driven on it for 20 years! When my husband, Ken and I met, he took over the driving any time we went anywhere so I got too comfortable and as a result, became afraid to drive out of my comfort zone. It took 20 years for me to get over the fear of fear itself! I learned to drive on the California freeways which is just nuts! It was back when I was 16 and is probably much worse now.

Don't get me wrong here, I still hate driving on the freeway. If I could get to Mom's without having to get on the freeway I'd be one happy camper. But...even though it would take me a lot longer, I would feel much more comfortable. I do know that I won't be taking that trip very often unless it's an emergency. Mom's getting up there and isn't in too great of health so I'm glad I got through this when I did. Our trip took 7 hours instead of the normal 5. We had to stop and get my daughter a Mocha, get air into my tires, etc. etc., I'm sure you know how it goes, LOL.

One of the reasons for my visit was to take my old 3 year old computer to Mom. Hers gave up the ghost just before I brought the one I gave to her. I had it professionally cleaned and everything taken off and Windows XP Home Edition put back on.

Between setting up that computer for her and reinstalling programs on my daughter's computer, I worked practically non-stop for a week. I was exhausted by the time I got back home. Ohhhhh did my bed feel good that night! Didn't even get a chance to really visit with my Mom.

Thennnnn....after I get home....

Well, that's tomorrows story, :). Stay tuned.....
