2005-07-22 All Work and No Play...
Well you know how the rest of that goes. ... So we are taking some time off. We have a cabin trailer which we bought 3 years ago. It's about time we used it don't you think? We are going to the lake for a family reunion. It will be the first time we leave our son on his own. He is seventeen and he will be going to university in the fall so I guess this is a trial run. He finally found himself a job. It is only for two weeks but it will give him some spending money. He is helping a landscaping business lay sod for the centennial our province is celebrating this year. At first he was just picking up the pieces of sod and laying them in place. He would kneel down each time so his knees were sore the first day. He was also tired since they worked from 7:30am until 6:30pm. I don't think it took him long to go to sleep that night. :o) The next day he just lifted them up and then bent over to lay them down. I don't think he was as sore that night. I guess he had a bit of a change from laying the sod today. He dug some trenches around the trees for watering. He also got home about 5:30pm because they ran out of sod. He has tomorrow off but is working again on Saturday. He should have some extra muscles when he gets done. :o) I believe it is a good way to start adulthood , doing physical labor. Good for mind and body. Well everyone have a good weekend and I'll be back on Monday.
2005-07-20 The Death of Common Sense
I read this at a forum I was invited to and thought I would pass it on. The Sad Death Of Common Sense
I received this in a recent email and I have no idea who wrote it, but it certainly resonates with me. What do you think?
"Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; however they could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Finally, Common sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
If you still know him pass this on, if not join the majority and do nothing."
2005-07-19 Duh Vinci Code!
That was the heading of an article in the Plain Truth magazine that I subscribe to. I agree wholeheartedly with the article that says, "No one should feel that his or her faith has been undermined by the fantasies and lies presented under the guise of truth in this novel ". Anyone who tries to degrade my Lord Jesus gets my back up! I haven't read the book and I don't intend to; I don't read smut, pornography or satanic articles either. I decided it wasn't worth reading when I read that he (Brown) thinks or did he say he 'proved' that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. I'm sorry but Jesus was perfect so it was impossible for Him to be married! Jesus taught Paul that if you can't control your sexual impulses then you should get married, otherwise you should stay single.1Corinthians7:1 - 9, especially verses; 1-2 and verses 8-9. Christ was perfect so of course He could control His sexual impulses. ( Some Christians may be shocked to read that but He was human and experienced all the emotions and temptations we do.Heb.4:15) The difference between Him and us is the fact that He was also God! So the temptations would be removed as fast as they accousted Him.e.g. Matt. 4:1 - 11. Because He was so tempted He is able to relate to our weaknesses because we are not perfect and tend to give in to temptations more often than we should. That is why we need Christ in us to overcome those temptations. Mary Magdalene was one of the women, Mary, Jesus' mother was another, who followed Jesus and administered to Him. Jesus had removed seven demons from Mary Magdalene so no wonder she followed Him. I would too if someone had changed me from a lunatic to a sane person! The article says: " Nearly all of Brown's assertions in The Da Vinci Code are based on several statements he presents on the first page under the heading of "FACT." Most notable among these "facts" is the following: "The Priory of Sion --a European secret society founded in 1099--is a real organization. In 1975 Paris' Bibliotheque Nationale discovered parchments known as Les Dossiers Secrets,......." "At first blush, this may seem rather harmless; but Brown uses this "fact" (which in reality is completely untrue, since the Priory of Sion was really founded in 1956) to cast aspersions on Jesus Christ, the historicity of the Gospels, and the uniqueness of Christianity." "Much of what Brown trumpets as truth is based on a fabrication concocted by an anti-Semite with a criminal record.......... whose hoax has been exposed in Europe and the U.S. (see, for example, Laura Miller, "The Da Vinci Con," The New York Times Book Review, Feb. 22, 2004, p.23)....."As you look in the mirror..... be honest
2005-07-17 Celebrations, Rain and Roses
Boy ! What a month this has been so far! And it is not over yet! My son graduated from grade 12, my husband's aunt died, and my town has just finished celebrating it's 100th birthday along with our province. We still have a family reunion to go to plus the town where I was born is also celebrating it's 100th. Then it will be fair time. The saying goes , 'once the fair is over then it won't be long and winter will be around the corner! I really don't want to think about that. It's too depressing. :o( . Anyway I'll try to take one day at a time. :o) So today I'm taking it easy. It is blowing and raining outside so it isn't hard to do. My son has gone to the football game and my husband is having a snooze, so I thought it was a good time to write in my Blog. My grandson was down with his parents for the centennial celebrations but he was quite fussy so I didn't get to spend much time with him. I want to go visit him for a couple of days soon. I need to get my garden and yard cleaned up before I go. With all the rain we've had this spring and summer the weeds are trying to take over. I've been working on them but it will still take a few days especially since it is raining again. If it rains too much I will just go and the weeds will have to wait. We have gumbo here when it rains and it takes a while to dry. We try not to walk on it when it is wet because it packs the earth and it becomes as hard as a rock. It sure is good ground for growing though. Well I was going to end this and watch some of the football game on T.V. but it has been blacked out in this area. So back to writing! I had to stop and pour myself a cup of coffee. I started buying coffee beans and also bought myself a burr grinder. The only way to grind the beans. The blade grinders can burn the coffee beans and I'm not into burnt coffee. I no longer like the ground coffee that you buy in the stores. To me they leave a sour taste in my mouth. I have been buying my beans right from the Roaster. As I went to get my coffee I stopped to admire the roses I brought into the house earlier. They are so gorgeous! They are a deep red color. I brought in three stems, each with one bud in bloom and three more buds on the stem. The best roses I have ever had. The flowers look perfect. I am so grateful that they have survived our cold winters. I've mulched them in the fall and this is the third year they have bloomed. Roses are my favorite flower!I had to stop to see if I could find the tag that has the rose's name on it but I couldn't find it. I know I have it somewhere, later.. I have bought two other kinds of roses but they are nothing like the red ones. Well, my daughter has just phoned so I will end this for now so I can call her back. I am just on dial up so I will have to shut down the internet. May the rest of your day be as beautiful as red roses!
To Eat or Not to Eat...
I love food, especially when someone else has cooked it. I even like hospital food! When I go to a restaurant it is sometimes hard to choose. There is so much variety, so many different flavors. I am grateful that I have so many choices. To Eat or Not to Eat... that shouldn't have been the question! No I'm not talking about dieting. I'm talking about the start of man's downfall right from the beginning. I'm talking about the choices two people made that changed the whole world. They had so much variety, the absolute best of everything. There was only one thing they weren't allowed to have. The one thing that would cost them their lives if they ate it. What were they thinking?? I'm sure most people, those who believe in Creation, blame Eve for mankind being kicked out of the Garden of Eden. Well I'm here to say you have been mislead. Eve may have been the first one to eat from the forbidden tree because she was deceived but Adam wasn't deceived, he just went along for the ride. His choice was, that.. surely God didn't know what He was talking about, he obviously decided that God must have been lying to them. He decided he would believe the Evil One instead of God. God created man with the right to choose and ever since Adam took that first bite man has been making wrong choices. If Adam would have been the leader God created him to be, our lives would be a whole lot different. If Adam had ejected the snake out of the Garden and Eve had asked God's forgiveness I believe mankind would not, since then, be continually searching for Paradise. Do you make the right choices? Are you continuously looking for something better but you don't know what it is? Your answer is here, because our loving Father has given us a second chance. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life"
Can you look in the mirror and .... believe..
