 The Self-fulfilling Power of Expectations

The Guru Expectation Approach

The name gurus all seem to be coming out with product after product which is nothing new BUT ..

The new  twist seems to be to give these products away.

I'm not going into their reasoning here but it does raise the question, are they finding it equally as hard to get a rise out of their membership lists as you and I are?

Do they have to package their skills, or lack of them, in some fancy box cover with a grabbing headline that says you know you can't resist owning something so valuable from such a  successful marketer. And OMG, can you believe it - it is free?

It really is NOT the free that grabbed you.  It is the obscurity of grasping at what you do not know, of giving it credence or power to make you want to have it. Of making you pass judgement on what you do not know or understand, you just  gotta have it.

You, dear reader, in your hunger to know, judged profound that  which they offered you and its very obscurity created the awe  necessary for you to go get it.

The Power of Expectation and Perceived Judgement

There is a very valuable lesson in that profound expectation of your action to have what you judged powerful.  It lies at  the  heart and soul of why you are so easily distracted - unable to focus on what you do need, to be tempted to grasp at what you do not need that detracts you from concentrating on sucessfully building your business.

This lesson lies at the heart of why 95% of marketers are doomed to failure.  The self created awe and the perceived  judgement veiled in obscurity will do you in every time.

The Power of Expectation And Intent

He had this way of looking at me. NOT through me, right at me and that look never failed to make me feel I needed to do better, I could do better.

He never raised his voice, my Dad, he just gave us that look  and it was quite enough to turn our heads and our hearts around. No matter the mischief, the idea of ever doing it again disappeared in that look.

If our thoughts are a perfect reflection of what is in the process of happening, then the intent of his expectations were very clear to us. if positive thinking does indeed bring good fortune and happiness, then ours was experienced in our relationship with our Dad because we perceived his expectations  beyond doubt.

Understanding The power of Your Expectations On Others

Do you hold an off line job?  For many it is a miserable excuse for a regular paycheck. However, researching your expectations and the expectations of your boss or supervisor can teach you  invaluable lessons in respect to how you influence others with your expectations of their performance.

The Pygmalion Effect is usually attributed to a leadership role whether a boss, supervisor, mentor or leader of some sort. It is their expectations that affect the performance of those they are responsible for. If in a leadership role, your expectations are that your people will succeed then it is more than likely they will succeed.

How many times have you actually come in contact with the boss that you found it a total pleasure to work with? They set the  boundaries of your position and supported your efforts. If your associations were pleasant and their intentions were to make you feel an integral part of the company then no doubt you learned to be appreciative and cooperative in the right manner.

That brings us to you. The term for your position is the Galatea Effect which means the results of a good relationship when the leaders in your life create a self-fulfilling prophecy. In other words if you think you will succeed and you have the right leadership exposure then you will succeed.

I shall always be a flower girl to Professor Higgins because he
always treats me as a flower girl and always will; but I know I
can be a lady to you because you always treat me as a lady and
always will.
