In This Season of Rebirth ...

"One never can see the thing in itself, because the mind does not transcend phenomena" Hilaire Belloc.

I was born into a house of mixed religion - opposing views I suppose you might say if you are looking for excuses to define religion. My mother was Catholic and my father was Unitarian. In neither case did one overshadow the other.

I learned from these two fine people that they were both Christian in every sense of the word. That religion often carries a different name in order to feed the need of categorizing but not the soul of the believer.

Our five daughters were taught to acknowledge all religion with respect. Know thy neighbor was as valuable a lesson as love thy neighbor as thyself. Saturdays and Sundays were a very busy time as the girls often attended as many as five different church services in their quest to understand. Their father's religion was High Anglican - English born and bred, as they are so fond of saying.

My pride in each of them is unfettered by religious doctrine because it is founded on their willingness to always be there for those in need. Their beliefs have incorporated those of a French, Dutch, Cree, English and Canadian born husbands who add to their knowledge base and understanding of the very personal spiritual beliefs that all hold.

We live in a huge world. All borders transcend to each country no longer claiming original descendants as its reason for being. And so it should be thus that all mankind are known for their true spirit of humanitarianism rather than the lable of their religious beliief.

Dangerous waters? Perhaps. But then if each of us is true to our religious beliefs then we are educated enough to know that all religion as we know it today had its roots in paganism, including Easter (Eostre).

Why fight it? Why fear it? Why protest so much? Why not embrace it and know we have all come a long way no matter the origins of our spiritual beliefs. It is who we are today that matters and how we use what we have learned to better our world and help our fellow human being in need.

Historically, it is always the messenger mankind kills in fear, but never the message. In this time of spritiual regeneration, reach out and touch someone.

Contrary to Popular Belief

When I was a kid, I was the contrary varmit of our neighborhood. To the chagrin of my parents, whatever the status quo of the day appeared to be, I was on the opposite side of the fence.

Thus if there was war in the neighborhood, I opted for peaceful solutions. If there was peace in the neighborhood, I backed off. I watched but I did not really participate in the so -called peace. Maybe I was born old. Maybe I was born with some inbred mastery of the human condition. All I know is, peace seldom lasts.

Contrary to popular belief, change is inevitable. Someone will always rock the boat, reinvent the wheel or test the waters wtih contrary opinion.

So where is all of this leading to? The results of an open discussion - where 300,000 people got burned investing in scam HYIP programs and the feeling that perhaps 1% of these people will have learned their lesson.

The other 99.9% are contrarians at heart.
