Feelings of Self Worth Are the Foundation of Success

Self Healing Techniques

Feelings of Self Worth Are the Foundation of Success.  You too can become a winner in all your life endeavors.

How to Build Feelings of Self Worth

Can you really be calm, cool and collected when you are faced with challenging situations?  Yes, you can, if you change the way you think about what is happening.

First let’s look at a few things that may cause you to put yourself down.  Remember that the way you look at any situation causes you to experience either positive or negative feelings.  The events which cause you to feel badly about yourself, also leech your feelings of self worth.

1. Over competitiveness is a killer

Many of us are surrounded at work by people who are only concerned about how to get ahead.  This negative work environment is a destructive situation. Your efforts go unappreciated.  You may spend endless hours depriving yourself of rest, food, and relaxation with no recognition for your effort.  Eventually you become bitter, resentful and totally unhappy with yourself and others.  Be wise and go elsewhere. Competition is only healthy when there is give and take in the process of winning. Cooperation creates an atmosphere of well being and success.

2. You attract the kinds of vibrations to yourself that you give out to others

Remember that you attract to yourself, what you give out.  Think of how you feel when you are on the receiving end of people who gossip, backstab, whine, kiss up, ramrod, nag, complain, patronize, sluff off, snipe, and vent explosively.  These folks create bad vibes.  It is easy to get sucked into doing the same behaviors as the group that tried to victimize you.  Avoid participating in such situations.

3.  All of life is change

It is natural to feel these common reactions to changes which occur in life: fear, irritability or withdrawal. Which of these do you use to deal with change?   Are you afraid? Are you irritable?  Do you withdraw?  Change creates stress for many people.  Begin to think about any change as an chance to learn how to do something new or in a different way.  Seeing change as an opportunity will create positive images in your thinking.  This definitely goes a long way to helping you deal with change.

4.  Past failures are learning opportunities

Remember that every failure can be defined as a learning opportunity. You make the choice to change your feelings about any situation by looking at what is happening to you in a different way.  A toddler learning to walk or to do anything new may fall and cry.  However, the child momentarily gets up and tries again.  You must do the same.

5.  How you look at the world defines your experience

Focusing on all that goes wrong in life, is an easy habit to create.  If you are constantly looking for all the negatives in your life, you will experience more of the same.  Learn to make lemonade from lemons and you will find yourself viewing your life more positively.  The result will be more feelings of joy and contentment.

6.  You determine your life’s outcomes

Many believe that who we are is genetically determined.  Others say that we are embedded in relationships with our family, friends, community and our culture influences who we are.  This is the context in which we dwell.  You are influenced by all these things, but you also make your own choices about who you are and who you will become.  You are ultimately responsible for making your own decisions and choices in life.  You learn from your own mistakes and those of others.

You are a thinking person, who has feelings which come from your thoughts and behaviorFeelings of self worth are built on a foundation of the choices we make, which get us what we want and where we want to go.  They are based on the realization that no one is perfect.  Life is an adventure where we all make mistakes.  Adopting the idea that failures are learning opportunities creates good feelings in you about life and about who you are.

You have heard it said that some people are born leaders or positive thinkers. Nothing could be further from the truth.  Being positive, and staying positive is a choice. Building feelings of self-worth and drawing lines for self improvement is a choice - not a rule or a talent. God does not come down from heaven and tell you – “George, you may now have permission to build positive feelings about who you are so you can improve your self image.”

In life, its difficult to remain positive, especially when events and people around you keep pulling you down.  Life’s journey opens an array of more options. Along the way, we get hit and bruised. But listening to our small inner voice creates the kind of change which comes from within.  With the armor of your inner voice you voluntarily change 3 things: your attitude, your behavior and your way of thinking.

Your  journey toward self-actualization and wholeness

Building feelings of self worth is a journey toward self-actualization.  As you start becoming responsible for your own choices: who you are, what you have and what you do, you begin a process which spreads like wildfire. These flames gradually spread  from inside you to all that surrounds you.  Feelings of self worth give you the strength to take control of your life, as you define your values.  Your values lay the groundwork for a focused, disciplined lifestyle.  You are able to a truly assess  who you are and how you will define your life mission.

How do you start creating these building blocks?

Think about what is good in your life.  In other words be positive.  List your daily blessings and be grateful for each of the  blessings you receive.  Dwell on them.  Be appreciative.  Never miss an opportunity to compliment others. Thank the universe daily for the gifts you have received.  A positive way of living will build your feelings of self worth.  This is truly the beginning of self-actualization - the secret to self improvement.
